I was using my Iphone to transact the sale. I put in the amount and the customer changed her mind. Unfortunately, the number keyboard had disappeared so I could not press on the C (for cancel) key. Now my screen shows only
No Sale
Charge $0.00
and I don't see any way to get out of this screen to cancel the whole transaction and go back to New Sale.

That sounds glitchy. As long as you don't have payments pending in Offline Mode, I would try deleting and reinstalling the Square app from your iPhone. That should prevent this from happening again.
Another way to cancel or clear a transaction in the future is to select Current Sale at the top of the screen in Checkout, then select the down arrow in the top right-hand corner, and select Clear Sale. Let me know if you have any questions about this.
