Help with iPad item grid please.

I'm having lots of frustration trying to create and organize my item grid on iPad.

Please implement list view for the iOS item grid as soon as possible.

The tiles are almost completely unusable for many business types. The names are just far too short, and the images far too small (and cropped poorly) to be able to tell items apart.

(By the way, the image sizes and text lengths capable on the item grid is different in reality compared to that shown in Square's promotional images. This was one reason I spent $800+ on the square stand setup. I'm feeling rather misled at this point.)

what do you mean by implement list view for the iOS item grid as soon as possible?

as for text lengths, I do agree that they are not long enough.  and I had never noticed but you are correct about images of Square.  I tried to replicate the words shown in the following pic multiple title items (cutting board, tableware set, drinking glass etc) and they do not render the same either with more letters missing or whole words cut off like glass in drinking glass.  this is the first image that you come across https://squareup.com/pos.  I'm not sure where these images come from if they are concept renderings from before there was an app, or internal versions, or if they made these for advertising and I would hope were off on the character count on accident.

On the Android version of the POS app, you can change the item grid from displaying square picture buttons to shorter buttons with just the item names.

Not only does this allow more items to fit on a page, but it provides additional length for the name to display more fully.

I can’t find an example image on the web right now. I’ll take one of my android tablet when I head in to the shop later today.

image.jpgHere is what the POS app looks like on my 8 inch android tablet. As you can see there is a lot more room for text, as well as items per page.

This is much more useful for businesses that have multiple similar items where a tiny picture isn’t the best way to quickly distinguish things.

I’m surprised the iPad app cannot do this. If they are able to make the android app do it with such a wide variety of screen sizes and ratios to take into account, I would’ve thought the iPad certainly could.

interesting, I've never heard anyone mention that grid option on android before.  I can definitely see how it would be useful.

Hi @DaoDeJing - What kind of Android device are you using? I'm not as familiar with them as the iPad, but can follow up with someone on our team to find out more about the grid display.

I have the Lenovo Tab3.

But to clarify, I'm looking for a way to adjust the items on the iPad. The Android tablet already works as I want it.

the way you have your grid on your Android device isn't possible on an iPad, and until you posted that I had never seen a grid setup like that.

but it still does leave the question as to why the pics on the website aren't replicable in Square POS with that same item description.

Okay, good to know I'm not missing something on the iPad.

Hopefully someone can pass along to the development team a request to allow a non-picture item grid on the iPad. Or at least change the name format to allow more letters like the promo pictures. 🙂

10/8/2021..... STILL no fix for the item appearance on an iPad. The text version is STILL unavailable. You're forced to use ridiculously small "buttons" with very little room for an item identifier.
