Help with SKU's and scanner
Just purchased a store that had been using QuickBooks POS and printing tags using a Zebra printer. I uploaded the existing inventory into Square without too much fuss, all the inventory is there with the accurate SKU's. Setup all my hardware today and the scanner does not even beep when I try to scan a tag. The item is in the inventory list, I can look up it up by item # (but not by SKU?) and the SKU matches the tag I am trying to scan.
I'm thinking it is either a pairing issue or a problem with my SKU's. I open for business in two days and I am freaking out a bit as the staff will not be excited about having to manually look up each item instead of scanning, they have over 3,000 items in inventory. As it's Sunday I can't get any help until tomorrow. Any insights or troubleshooting tips anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the type of barcode that QB uses isn't supported by your scanner... Which seems strange to me? Is that where the labels came from? ...Printing from a Quickbooks App? What kind of scanner are you using? Have you been able to successfully scan any other barcode (from something nearby, like a water bottle)?

I think it has to be way QuickBooks printed the labels, yes they were printed from a QuickBooks POS system. I bought the Symbol LS2208 scanner from Square. It will scan any UPC (and say item not found) and it will scan barcodes I printed from Square so I know it works. When I try to scan any of the price tags (of which I have 3,000 items in my new souvenir store) printed from QuickBooks the scanner does not beep or even recognize it. It has to be an issue with that particular barcode possibly only being picked up by QB?
I did call support and they thought the QB barcodes should be accepted and helped me reset the scanner but it still is not working. Such a bummer as I have no way track my inventory now unless I want cashier's looking up each item by hand and in the busy summer season that's not very realistic.

Yea, it sounds like Quickbooks is using their own proprietary barcode language... They probably wont scan in anything other than QB. I can imagine that's a very stressful situation right now. If I was you, I would assign new UPC's to everything, upload that to Square, and relabel everything in the middle of the night with the new barcodes. You'll thank yourself for doing it all at once before you open. Otherwise, you're likely to end up with inventory that has 2 different SKU's, or worse, leading to a lot of confusion down the road. Best to get it all done at once. You certainly don't want your employees having to search for an item out of a list of thousands for every purchase! Best of luck. Wish I could be more helpful.

Are you using Square for Retail or the Square POS app? Just curious, as we are developing a consignment app for the POS app and the new Square Register. It's been working great for the last two weeks. Just putting some finishing touches on it before it's available as a beta test.

Thank you. We opened yesterday and it was quite a nightmare trying to look up each item by hand so I'll be spending the next week or two relabeling everything, kind of daunting but has to be done.
