Enter beginning inventory after sales?

Is there a way to enter what the beginning inventory was for an item even after sales of that item have completed?  We forgot to add the beginning inventory for an item and really want to use inventory management for it.  But then we had some sales for that item.  I know I can enter what our *current* inventory is, but I was hoping there would be a way to enter what the beginning inventory was, so that the sales to date would subtract from that correctly to show us our current inventory.  Possible?

Hello @davefackler

Great question! Currently we do not have the ability to retroactively apply inventory changes on prior sales. It's an interesting suggestion and I'm interested in learning the reason why you want it. It would help paint a picture for our Inventory Management Team as well.

As a new business, we don't have all of our processes down pat quite yet.  So its been pretty hectic.  Thus, we didn't have the starting inventory for all of our items (food, drinks, merchanidise, etc.) added.  But we had to open our doors, so we did.  And started tracking sales against those items.  While we can certainly use the inventory recount feature to add what our inventory is NOW, we were hoping to be able to enter what it WAS before we started tracking sales.  I can also foresee that at some point in the future, we might get more inventory and not have time to get that inventory count entered before someone purchases an item, so it would be nice to also be able to back date an addition to the inventory so that all the inventory changes are correctly listed from a historical perspective along the timeline of inventory additions and subtractions (based on sales).

Make sense?

Got it, I understand that sometimes things don't go as planned when opening a new business. I'll make sure to share this feedback with our Inventory Team @davefackler🙂
