Can a charge be voided same day?

Charged a non-tax client this morning including tax.   Can we void the charge to avoid affecting client's credit card or does it have to be refunded even if done same day?  Refunds take longer than charges to process back to client.

In this situation, you can just refund the tax.  there isn't a way to void a credit card transaction as it took place instantly at the time of the transaction.
