Can I use the squareup app after I sign up to square for retail?

I am using an android device for my squareup account... i want to upgrade to square for retail... will i still be able to use my square up app on my phone?  or will i have to purchase an apple device?  Thank you for your help I am a bit confused on this subject.

you can use Square POS on your phone but it won't be the Square for retail app.  it will still function just like it does now.
