When I go into Reports > Discounts I can see the total number of times a discount code was applied during a specific period and how much was discounted, but I cannot drill down into those transactions. I am running a campaign where I give away a free scoop of ice cream. I want to know if those people who redeem the coupon are purchasing other items or just getting their free scoop and going on their way. Do they get coffee or a pastry or buy another scoop for a friend?
I do not see any way to get this information from any of the reports or exports. It makes managing my marketing campaigns very difficult because I do not have any visibility into whether the campaign is effective or not. I've had to have my employees tally the transaction amount by discount code on a sheet of paper just to see whether it's working or not.
Great question @gingersgelato! You should be able to see attributable sales from the Campaign report (Marketing > click on the campaign) but that's another overall number. 😕
@pessosices and/or @Ryanwannter Do you have any tips to share here?
You can get the data you want by exporting one of the reports from the Transactions screen. Either of the Items reports shows the discounts for each sale. If you don't care which specific customer bought which items (with or without a discount), the Items Summary CSV report will be good enough, but if you want to track each specific customer's purchases, you'll need to export the Items Detail CSV report.
I tried exporting all 3 of the different transaction reports and none of them show the discount code uses for the purchase.
Are you looking for the specific code that was used for each transaction? Generated by Square Marketing?
You've asked for a few different things, I just want to get to the bottom of what specific info you are looking for.
Have you just looked at your Sales Report for Discounts?
I want to see the transactions associated with a specific discount code. The sales report for discounts only shows me how many times the code was used for a specific period and how much was discounted.
My use case is this: I have a marketing campaign where I give coupons for a free gelato. When a customer comes to redeem I want to know if they bought something else during that visit. The goal would be that they purchase a coffee or another gelato, or a pastry. How much was that transaction when they used the code? Right now there is now way to see this, and thus, no way to effectively evaluate whether this campaign is working or not.
Hope that helps clarify.
Got it.
Well, there is no specialized report that shows you this- but you are able to export your Transaction Report CSV - look at Sales in the Discount Category, choose sales that have a higher Gross Sale vs Discount Sale, and then look up the transaction ID in your Dashboard to see what specifically was on that transaction.
The Pan of the Card is available in the Transaction CSV so it would allow you to easily search your dashboard for that transaction.
Definitely not a perfect solution - but It's a way to track the data you are looking to understand.
