Can I get an accurate customer count?

Is it possible to get an accurate customer count with Square's POS? Most systems that I've worked with in other restaurants allows to enter how many seats at a table. I have not been able to figure out if I can do this with Square. It would be very beneficial to know how many customers you've had each night and not just how many tickets/checks.

Hey @Dessiner and @ThreeSacksFull, thanks for surfacing!

To be sure I'm on the same page—are you looking for a way to count how many customers are seated in your restaurant at a given time? We did recently release Square for Restaurants, which includes a customizable floor plan for your tables. Have a look here for more details and let me know if that helps get you where you need to be: Get Started with Square for Restaurants.

If I'm missing the mark, please don't hesitate to reply here with a bit more information on what you're needing to do and we'll take another look!

Not exactly, I don't really need to know how many customers are in the restaurant at any given time.

I want to be able to enter the number of customers for any given table when I type up their food/drink order on square.  That way we can track the total number of customers we had at the end of the day.  I want to be able to look at my report and see the total number of customers we had on any given day.  That way I can figure out what the average customer spend is and whether it is declining, rising, compare to other days, etc.

I looked at the link you sent Square for Restaurants, but I didn't see anything there about daily tracking of customers in this way.

I've used numerous other POS systems over the years and they all have this feature in some form.

Hello @ThreeSacksFull, I'm sorry it took this long for someone to get back to you.

What you're looking to do is possible with Square for Restaurants. When you seat a group of customers, the app will ask how many guests there are. Each guest will be assigned a seat number and your waiters will be able add items to each seat number.

When you view this information on your Square Dashboard you'll need to look at Section Sales. Look for the column that says Covers.  This column is a count of the number of seats (Customers) for a given time frame. It will automatically breakdown sales and tips by section and table. It will also calculate the average sale per customer for you. 🙂

We are also looking for a way to count the amount of people who come through the door in a given day. We are a brewery with a tap room and outside space. Some seating but mostly people walk around or stand and talk with friends, play outdoor games. Doesn't sound like the resturaunt version would work for us. Is that the only way we would be able to get a count with square?

Hello @OutlawBrewingNH. 👋

As Tom mentioned in this thread when you use the Restaurants app the Covers column of the Section Sales report should show you this information. You can export the Section Sales report from your online Square Dashboard.

You can try Square Restaurants for free for 30 days. It might be worth taking a look to see if it's a good option for your brewery!
