[New] Team member badges available on Square Shop

Hi sellers!

Square Staff is now offering team member badges directly on Square Shop, unlocking more secure badges for the US and Canada, and expanding to Australia and the UK. Previously, team member badges were only available through a third-party website in the U.S and Canada. 

🇺🇸 Sellers in the US with Advanced Access or Square for Restaurants Plus/Premium will be able to order directly from Square Shop at a lower cost of $29 for a 20 pack.

🇨🇦 Sellers in Canada with Advanced Access or Square for Restaurants Plus/Premium will be able to order directly from Square Shop at a lower cost of $44 for a 20 pack.

🇦🇺 Sellers in Australia with Advanced Access or Square for Restaurants Plus/Premium will be able to order directly from Square Shop at a lower cost of $54 for a 20 pack.

🇬🇧 Sellers in the UK with Advanced Access or Square for Restaurants Plus/Premium will be able to order directly from Square Shop at a lower cost of £29.00 + VAT for a 20 pack.

🇮🇪 Sellers in Ireland with Advanced Access or Square for Restaurants Plus/Premium will be able to order directly from Square Shop at a lower cost of €49.00 + VAT for a 20 pack.

For enhanced business security, team members and managers can use team member badges instead of passcodes to get access to only what they need, even when you can’t be there yourself. This allows for faster clock ins, overrides, and device logins all from a single tap. You will no longer need to purchase badges from our third-party website and can now purchase directly on Square along with other Square hardware. See this help article for more information.

YESSS! I’m super excited to see this available in Australia! So this is live now?!? I bought the team member badges a few months back direct from the US and paid near $300 aud for them with the shipping fee because I was so keen for this feature. Unfortunately at the time it wasn’t available yet in oz but was told by square support we should see that by Xmas. Well all my Xmas dreams have now come true lol. Amazing news!

We love the Square badges, is there any way to stop them from requiring a pin every so often? We completly want to eliminate them.

Hi if we have square register will we need to buy a reader for them to tap the cards on?

Hi @Headpinz, at the moment, you need to have passcodes enabled to use badges. You can use badges in place of any action where you might use a passcode (log in/out, clock in/out and overrides).

@kathyz I understand by why the need to randomly enter code again? Makes the card useless.

When will a solution be created for the Square Register when the customer facing screen is extended away via cable making it unusable for team member badges?

Hi @davidQCC  you do not need to have a Square reader since you can use the customer-facing display to use Team member badges.

@KatieGlenn at the time, you can use a Square reader connected via a USB cable in order to use team member badges. Some sellers will keep the reader closer to the Register so it's easier for team members to use. Hope that helps!

I watched another business with this system (but a competitor) this week and I was really surprised at how efficiently they were able to make it work! In order for a customer service rep to ring through an order, they had to swipe their card to unlock the terminal. But it wasn't a barrier at all - it gave everyone flexibility to jump on the till when they needed to...

Right now, our screen time out is set to 5 minutes (because it can be annoying to sign in so often) but sometimes that means that transactions are happening under the wrong employee. I feel like member badges would help alleviate that. I might have to order some of these to give them a go!

I have our team put their passcode in for every sale. It's never been an issue for time, takes 2 seconds and it's nice to have the transactions tracked to the appropriate team member. Has saved a lot of headaches when anything comes up about a transaction.

Seems like the badges would be good to keep from people sharing passcodes or using someone else's without them knowing. Although I haven't really experienced this but I do become cautious when someone is watching me put my passcode in so maybe I will use them for Management.
