Starting today, you can opt into these changes via Release Manager, a new tool in Square Dashboard that lets you turn on big changes during the opt-in period. We encourage you to turn on new features on one or more of your devices soon, to have plenty of time to train your team on these changes before the redesign is automatically enabled on all of your devices.

Opt into these new features between now and February 20, 2024. Starting February 20, the redesign will automatically appear on all of your POS devices.

Hello,

Release manager doesn't show up as a setting in dashboard?

Please advise

Hi there, @julesatmarket

Please see this article here on how to set up release manager.

Let me know if you have any issues with this!

Yes. In that article it says to go to square dashboard settings and then release manager however that is not an option in my square dashboard settings.

Hi there @julesatmarket

Just to clarify, are you going into your Restaurants POS on your device and then going to settings? I know this isn't clear in the article. Let me know if you are able to turn on Release Manager this way.

Hey @julesatmarket

I've confirmed with the product team that you aren't currently seeing it as sellers who use the old item management functionality are excluded from Release Manager at the moment. This is a small group of sellers. If you'd like to be added to the POS Redesign, we'll also introduce the ability to edit item details on the POS, however it is important to note that at this time, inventory counts shown on item tiles is unsupported. This will be coming in a few weeks.

Before you are enabled, please review the changes you'll see here.

If you've reviewed those resources and would like to be enabled, please note that we will need to enable the full POS Redesign on your devices directly and Release Manager will not be available for use at this time.

If you'd like to be enabled, please reply to the thread here and our team will enable your POS devices for the POS Redesign.😀

yes please enable thank you!

Are Fractions and Scale support coming on this update? THIS is the biggest update that a LOT of business are waiting for YEARS.

Looks great, although I'm struggling to work out how to add an "item count" to a dish from the till. Previously, I could set a quantity remaining, and have a visible counter on each dish, and now I can only mark an item "available" or "unavailable" from the long-press menu.

Setting a stock on hand figure from the item's settings doesn't show a counter, and this isn't a menu I want employees to be able to access during shift. This feels like a valuable feature that's present in the old version, currently missing from the redesign.
Is there a fix for this?

Hey, just been on the webinar but missed the first 10 mins! Any chance we can have the YouTube link for the video tutorial please 😊

Hi @AbistrobySea 🙂 I'm glad that you like the redesign so far.

I just tested, and I can't seem to locate this function either. I have reached out to our Square for Restaurants team for some insight here and I'll let you know once I know more.

Great question @DonnaHSS - let me find out if we plan to post the recording. I'll let you know when I know more 🙂

What if we can only see 2 of our 4 devices on the release manager but they are all running the most up to date iOS and app version?

Square

Hi there - I took a look at your account and I only see three device codes for Square for Restaurants. Could the additional device be using the standard software? That being said, I also only see 2 devices listed in Release Manager. I'll have our engineering team take a look and will follow up shortly. Thank you.

Thank you, Hadley. The three devices we run are a front server station, back server station and a bar station. They all exclusively run square for restaurants. The two showing in release manager are the front server station (to which we’ve pushed the update to) and my personal iPhone which runs standard square rather than square for restaurants. Though it is in release Manager it does not actually have a device code. My entire staff prefers the new version and we’d like to make the switch but we’re stuck at present. Any help the developers can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

the new layout for online orders is a mess, my staff already had issues marking orders as ready and complete. The new layout has made that task harder and more time consuming that it was before hand.

Thanks for the additional information. My engineers are suggesting confirming updating your RST POS devices so that they are all on the latest software. It looks like you might have one or two running older versions and its possible Release Manager doesn't recognize those older versions. I'd suggest updating them, then giving it a few minutes to "register" in Release Manager and see if they show up at that point. 6.36 should be available but anything 6.34+ will have no issue.

Let me know if that works for you.

Hi Hadley,

thank you for your continued help. Both iPads in question are running to most recent version of Apple iOS and neither show an update available in the App Store for Square for Restaurants. If they’re showing as running an older version, how would I update if it’s not available in the App Store? Also why would it show my iPhone which is not running Square for Restaurants at all?

thank you

Square

Thank you for looking into this. I'd like to send you a quick email to continue troubleshooting. Could you send me a private message if the owner email on your account is the best to discuss or you'd like me to use another? Thanks!

Can you get this on the square POS register or only on iPads? I’m not seeing the POS device in available devices

One issue with the new design is that on the check menu screen while taking order (the screen with the left side showing categories/items and the right side showing what's on the check), when we have more than 1 quantity of the item that has a long name, the name got cut off as well as the quantity.

Please see the screenshot. When the item name is short, there's no problem; See Pad Thai x 2. But when the name is long, in this case, Gang Some Pie-sa + Crispy Catfish, "x 2" is not showing.

This really needs to be fixed asap as it creates confusion for the servers and customers. The solution could be

- cut the name shorter and have enough room to show quantity at the end

- move quantity to the front of the item

Thanks

Hi @Cskylar - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋

The Square for Restaurants PoS redesign is available for iOS, Square Register, and Mobile POS devices through the introductory period ending March 5, 2024, when all devices will automatically update.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.

We second this!!! The "remaining items" feature was huge for us and now leaves a big hole in our existing workflow. Hoping to see this feature make its way into this update soon!

I second this! We found the same thing. Love some of the new options and changes available but not being able to see the quantity (especially with any kind of lag on the app) is really difficult.

Can't wait to see the inventory count on item tiles returning to this update. Loving the new look of the item tiles and a few other features, just a few major flaws that mean workarounds for a few weeks until they get fixed.

The re-design is so much fresher and more user intuitive.

I notice that some elements are still under the old design, popups for Modifiers & Options for example.

Is there a plan to bring these in-line with the new design scheme?
