woocommerce stop category sync

Is it possible to use a php snippet to prevent the square sync from overwriting to the woocommerce category structure? We have a fairly complex category structure and square only seems to sync one from their side to woocommerce. We need it to sync everything but this.

I know this is an old post, and you may have found your answer but,

This is a bit beyond my scope though to be honest.  I would think that a snippet may work.   If you can find someone who can create the snippet for you then add it with this plugin. 

I'm not a fan of a bunch of plugins, but when it comes to messing with the functions.php , i would consider it.
