I have reported the to Square Support the exact same problem as in a previous post in 2021 that is now closed.
I have reported twice now to Customer Support that a Valid UK VAT number gets rejected as invalid when entering Business details for our location. Our Square account has been set up recently but the VAT Number has existed for many years.
On the first occasion a temporary fix was applied by Square entering our VAT number from their side. A few days later the VAT number had disappeared and when I tried to enter it once again the update page will not accept a valid (as evidenced by HMRC On Line Check) VAT number, reporting in the page in Red "VAT number is invalid"
Is anyone else experiencing this issue ?

I am sorry you are having issues with your VAT Number. I checked in with our Account Services team and they said this behavior is not intended. They asked that I file a ticket for this with Engineers for you, so I will go ahead and get that process started for you. Once our Engineers take a look into this, I will reach back out here with update. It may be a few days, but I will keep you posted promptly.

I chatted with our Engineers on this and they said that they were able to add the correct VAT number to your location. They said the reason that there was an issue, was that including the country code of "GB" at the beginning of the VAT number was included. They recommended entering just the numeric portion of the VAT number.
They said you are welcome to verify the updated information here: Log into your Dashboard and go to your Account & Settings → then select Business → Followed by Business Locations → Then Select location → And finally, Edit. Feel free to review the VAT information here.
After you check that, could you please confirm here if this resolves your issue?
