iPad, Square Terminal, and a USB scanner

Can I use a Honeywell Voyager 1250G USB barcode scanner with an iPad and Square Terminal? I would like to use the iPad on my side of the desk to ring people up and have the Square Terminal in reach of the customer to use for credit card payments.

I have tried every possible configuration and countless hubs and dongles and cannot get the barcode scanner to work. Any advice?

@Salon4 ,

I see you are using an Ipad but do not state if you have a Square Stand.  I believe the only way to connect a USB scanner to an Ipad is with a Square Stand.  Your other option is a Bluetooth Scanner to the Ipad.  This might be why you are having problems connecting a USB scanner to an Ipad with adapters.

For more on compatibility read here:

It looks like the 1250G is compatible with the terminal but not for your side on the Ipad.  For your scenario to work you would need a Square Stand and put your Ipad in the Stand and connect the 1250G to the USB Hub for the Square stand.  Then the customer can still see the transaction on the terminal and input their credit card there.

Thanks for your reply, Keith. I have ordered the Square Stand. Fingers crossed that does the trick.

Does anyone know if this combination will work with the USB cash drawer as well? So the set up would be iPad with square connected to the terminal through bluetooth and then the drawer connected to the terminal through the hub ? Will this work and the drawer open when you get a cash sale or no?

Hi there @gwilson - Thanks for following up on this thread.

When connecting the Square Terminal to the Square Point of Sale on an iPad, this will be done through the app, using a device code, not via Bluetooth. You can follow the steps listed here.

If you are using a USB cash drawer, the drawer can only be opened by the Square Terminal, because it will be physically connected to the USB hub of the Terminal and not the iPad. The device that the cash drawer is connected to will be the one to tell the drawer when to open.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi there thanks for the help. However this combination does not work unfortunately. When on the IPad and you go the hardware it does not show up. Therefore the terminal does not tell the drawer to open.

The setup is square terminal to hub with power and the usb to the cash drawer. All the ringing up is done on the iPad.
