eGift Certificate - Printable??

Why can we not Print Out a Gift Certificate from Square Register/Stand? Most, if not all of us have the Printer for Receipts which would work perfect for printing out the Gift Certificates that would fit in Grandma's Card. All the Metadata that is generated and used in the Email that is sent to the customer, should be allowed to be reformatted and printed at the Register after the email has been entered. Especially since when the grandkids come in with their Print Out, the Barcode is SO BIG, it can not be scanned, so we waste more time, punching in the numbers from the Print Out.

Does Square block us from doing this so they can sell more Plastic Cards? Is that not wasteful? Shouldn't we be doing out part for a greener future? Why is Square against saving the Planet? Why?

@ExpRobot could be on to something here.  I like the idea of being able to print a "gift card" from the receipt printer for use by the customer. It's could be problematic with thermal paper as the barcode and details could easily disappear if rubbed or wrinkled, exposed to Oklahoma weather this summer. I could see the details become unaccessible and we'd be left to hunt for the purchase somehow - this could be a problem.

Still - I like the thought process and even see merit (problems aside) for a paper printing process that issues a paper gift card instead of electronic or credit card style, that printed on a local printer.

Thank you.

Yes, there should be a better option for this, our stores loses a minimum of 3 out of 4 sales of eGift Certificates once it's mentioned its over email and they have to print it out. Grandma's and Parents hate this. When they do print it out, because of the unnecessary Square info that is added, it's 3 pages long and is not attractive.

If done on the thermal paper, it would fit perfect in a card for giving. As back up, they would also have the email and the original receipt.

We will never offer Plastic Cards, and this extremely limits potential sales because of the restrictions.

Gotcha, while I do understand how this would be easier for your business needs.

The purpose of our egift cards is to avoid using paper and plastic. If people do want any sort of physical gift card unfortunately it does have to be plastic cards for now. There is no workaround for that, and not something that Square will be changing in the near future.

Hi @ExpRobot,

Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate your concern.

I just want to gather some more information so we are on the same page.

Are you using egift cards and you want the option to print it from the register? Or you want the option to print "Other gift card or certificate."

eGift cards are what they say eGift cards to be used by the customer on their phone and give the gift card number to the vendor

If you want to hand a gift card to a customer that buys it in person you can get plastic gift cards from Square
