Why does a sale of a gift card no longer appear on the "View Metrics Summary" on the dashboard?

The actual sale of a gift card always showed in the net sales section on the metrics summary on the dashboard app.  Now it doesn.t  For instance this past weekend we sold $150 in gift cards, but when I click on view metrics summary it does not show this sale anywhere.  So when I goto reconcile my numbers are off, it used to be there and now the format was changed on this page so now it doesn't show what I actually sold if some gift cards were sold...

This gives me the issue now of I have no idea how to accurately record the sale of a gift card (which is money in for the sale and adds to my gift card liability account) and then recoding the use of a gift card (which removes money from my gift card liability account).  RIght now I can either add it to the liability account of the purchas of a card, or just deduct the sale ON the gift card and remove money from that liability account.

So how do I now record the SALE of a gift card, say $100 and then later record SALES ON the gift card, like $75.45 used of the gift card...

@flounderbrewing, if something is causing issues within our system, our Engineers need to eliminate what is causing the issue in order to fix it so the function can work as intended. I was learning new information on the situation from our Engineering team is why I did not give my most recent response first hand.

I was not telling you to purchase any new devices or the like, I was simply stating a workaround since you mentioned you could view it from your Dashboard.

As I said, I do apologize, but at this time it is not available. If I hear of changes to be implemented on this, I will keep you posted on this thread. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention.

Hi @flounderbrewing, thank you for reaching out!

When you have a moment, could you please provide more context and/or a screenshot of the "View Metrics Summary" and which Dashboard page it's on (or the URL)?

Once I have that, I can keep looking into this for you.

I can't attach an image and there is no URL, it is when I open the DASHBOARD APP on my iphone, scroll down and click on "VIEW METRICS SUMMARY".  This summary used to show the SALES OF GIFT CARDS in the NET SALES setion after TIPS, now it doesn't.  Sales of a physical gift card need to be coded differently in accounting as a liability, but now it seems I need to find that out by going to my desktop and logging into square and running a sales report.  For YEARS I have been using my phone and the metrics page to get the data I need to enter into my accounting.

Where is the actual SALE of the physical gift card even being logged now in the sales summary on the app?

Thank you for that information, @flounderbrewing.

I had our Operations team take a look and it appears that the rows you are needing to view may be hidden. If you expand the timeframe to a time that includes Gift Cards payments (for example, Date Selection set to "All of 2025"), then this information should be viewable and available under the "Total Collected" section.

They provided this screenshot:

I hope this helps a bit! If not, please let me know and I can keep looking into this.

I see that, but that is when gift cards are USED, not when the gift card is purchased.

So someone buys a $100 gift card it no longer shows in the metrics summary.  Yes it shows when someone spends a portion of a gift card which I also need to know for accounting, but no where on this screen does it show how many physical gift cards I actually sold.  I'm assuming it is just lumping that revenue into cash or credit collected (depending how it is paid for) but in accounting purposes you need to know what portion of your sales was physical gift card sales because that is put in a different account in accounting (typically GIFT CARD - LIABILITY).

It used to be there!  Square changed this just recently.

I understand, @flounderbrewing. So I reached back out to our Operations team and they took a look. It looks like this particular part of the report has been rolled back and is no longer available at this time. He mentioned that they may be adding it back at another time, but he unfortunately does not have a timeline for that.

I do apologize that this is no longer available!

@flounderbrewing

Are you talking about the gift card sales line in the area below Net Sales and above Total Collected on the Dashboard app?  Is this on iPhone or Android for the Square Dashboard App?

Are you not seeing something like the following screenshot?  In the area after Net Sales and above the Total Collected, it should show total Gift Card Sales line.

Then below the Total Collected, it should show any payments collected paid by gift cards.

The screenshot below is from the Square Dashboard app on Android with the most recent version of the app.

Yep!  That line is gone on the iOS app.  I can see it on my desktop report dashboard but it's gone on the iOS app.

Darn. So it seems that it is isolated to iPhone/iPad.

Hopefully the engineers will put that line back in that report for iOS Dashboard App very soon.

How??? It's still on android but they took it off iOS...look at the other screenshot someone put up from android, it still has it.  How can my sales metric view not show me how much in gift cards I sold???  This is so unbelievably unacceptable and to say it was removed and maybe it'll come back is sad.  It is a very important part of sales reports!  So now I look on my iPhone and I dont see a crucial line item of sales...not acceptable

I understand your frustration and I do apologize, @flounderbrewing.

The information that our Engineering team provided is that the way the old function was set up was causing bugs and glitches for many Sellers, so they needed to remove it for the time being until they can apply a fix to the issue affecting that function. Which is why I do not have timeline at this time.

There is a workaround in the meantime though, and that would be to view this information from the Dashboard or an Android device.

It was causing big and glitches so engineering removed a line item of our net sales?  That's ridiculous.  I'm really disappointed that it wasn't fixed and instead was removed and said "hey they can buy a different phone or go to their office, log in to their desktop and run a report to see how many gift cards they sold'.

and on top of all that you didn't even tell us the update would remove a line item of our sales in our iOS reports, I had to come here and keep posting until someone showed you it exists on android.  You provided 3 different explanations and I had to keep pushing to get what seems to be the real answer.
