Why are there different item lists on dashboard and online?

I have bulk uploaded a few items thinking that they would appear online but they don't. Having looked at it, there is a separate list of items on the dashboard items to when I go through to Online. Why is this and how do I rectify this? I want to bulk upload and update my spreadsheet rather than having to go in to each individual item.

Hi @Jack28, thank you for reaching out! It looks like items in your online Square Dashboard not appearing in your Square Online Overview page > Items > Item Library/Site Items. Here are some troubleshooting steps we can try to help resolve the issue: 

  1. Check the item variations in your Square item library, and be sure there aren’t two or more items with the same name.
  2. If there are, even if these items have different prices or SKUs, you’ll need to differentiate them by adding a ”.” (period), ”-“ (dash), or ”/” (forward slash) at the end of one name. This will cause items to re-sync.
  3. Make sure the location you are syncing from is a physical location (you can check this on your Dashboard > Account & Settings > Business > Locations)

Additionally, you can go to your Square Online Overview page > Settings > Square sync, toggle off one of the Sync settings options, and then toggle it back on to trigger a re-sync of that specific setting.

So should I only have one list? Should I remove everything from my online list and then only use the dashboard list?

Ah, apology for the confusion there @Jack28! It's expected that you'll see two item lists - one on your Square Dashboard and one on your Square Online. This is to allow you to sell online through your website.

 

However, it sounds like some items are not appearing on your Square Online list but are on your Dashboard, is that correct?

Now I’ve looked at it I can see what you mean. There were duplicates so I’ve removed them. Thanks. A few more questions:

 

I take it that when I do a bulk upload I still have to go in and update photos manually?

 

how do categories work on bulk upload? I have put in the category name but the items don’t seem to be listed on the site under those categories?

When you are doing a bulk upload, it does mean you'll need to update photos manually. However, you'd only need to add photos on your Square Dashboard and that'll be sync automatically to your online store.

 

Categories are only imported one time and do not sync continuously so you will need to update the items' categories manually on your online store as well.
