What information shows on a customers bank statement?

My Square is connected to my personal bank account,  not my business name. When a customer receives their bank statement,  does it show my name or the business name that is on the receipt?

Hi there, @Moringa1 👋 Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Seller Community! Welcome!

Good question, here! If you make a purchase with a merchant who uses Square to accept payments in person, over the phone or by emailed invoice, the characters SQ* or gosq.com, the merchant’s name or business name and business type will appear on your credit card statement.

Charges can appear on your statement in a few different ways. For example:

  • The bakery Sweet Dozen would appear as “SQ* SWEET DOZEN BAKERY” on your statement.

  • A bakery merchant with no business name would appear as “SQ* BAKERY JOHN SMITH” on your statement.

  • An individual selling baked goods would appear as “SQ* JOHN SMITH” on your statement.

If you see gosq.com on your statement, this represents a purchase made with a Square seller. If you don’t recognise the charge from the description, you can look up the purchase here.

I hope this information is helpful! Feel free to reach back out if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for your prompt reply! As the funds are deposited to my personal bank account,  I don't want that information showing on a customers account statement. Keeping it professional,  you know.

@Joe for some reason the word "HEALTHCARE" is showing up on my customers credit/debit card statements. This is not our business name, nor is it even our industry. Can you tell me how I would go about changing/updating this?

Hi there, @retrorolla - thanks for reaching out!

Very strange, indeed. This could be related to the Merchant Category Code that you choose for your account upon activation, but normally the MCC shouldn't display on your customers statement.

I would recommend flagging this over to our Support Team directly. They can work with you to determine where the issue is.
