What happened to Invoice as a payment option from a saved ticket?

I frequently use saved tickets, and often when I hit charge, I choose an option to create and send an invoice.  It worked for years, but now this option has suddenly disappeared.  What's going on?

In this Support Article it states, “With the migration to Order Manager, you will no longer be able to pay for an open ticket with an invoice that was sent to a buyer for payment. Instead, you need to create & add items to the invoice and manually send it to the buyer.”

 

In short: Square has removed the direct “ticket to invoice” path and require you to perform invoices separately now.

 

You can still save a ticket/open ticket, but you cannot convert it into an invoice directly from the ticket like you used to. You’ll need to create a new invoice separately in the Invoices section for the full amount or re-add items manually.

This is a very poor decision.

 

If the introduction of double handling has been enforced, your clients are going to bypass Square and use their Bookkeeping software to send the invoice and avoid the square fees in client payment. 

Very poor decision from a customer UX and Square revenue perspective. 

A lose-lose situation.

This is a feature that I regularly used and would love to see reinstated. It was a really nice seamless feature that I didn’t realize how much I used until it disappeared.

Invoices currently do not support scanning items via a USB barcode scanner. Because of that limitation, converting a large POS transaction into an invoice is no longer practical. For sellers who regularly build sizable tickets by scanning items at the register, being forced to recreate those same line items manually inside Invoices adds significant time, friction, and risk of error.

While I personally did not rely on the ticket to invoice flow, I can clearly see how removing it, without feature parity in Invoices, negatively impacts many sellers’ workflows. The ability to scan items is foundational for high volume or fast paced environments, and its absence makes this change especially disruptive.

 

At a minimum, I would strongly recommend that Square review and prioritize USB scanner functionality within Invoices so that sellers can efficiently recreate or build itemized invoices without manual re-entry. Restoring either the conversion path or equivalent scanning functionality would go a long way toward reducing friction caused by this transition.

No this does not help.

 

Print ticket (so I can see all the info), retype all that info (many line items have custom descriptions unique to that sale) in a new invoice, go back to ticket and void the ticket.  That can easily take 15 minutes to do just one.

I use this feature frequently due to the nature of my business.  Writing up a ticket and then having to rewrite all the notes while a customer waits for me is beyond frustrating. The feature keeps being removed and then added again at every app update. I'm on the verge of switching to another payment processor/POS because of it.

This is also a feature we use regularly.  When we have corporate parties at our facility with an open tab, when the night is over we would send the accounting off  the tab via invoice so they can pay.  We have no way of doing that now because I am not going to ring in 700 items after the fact when they are already entered in the POS.
