All my items have variations and I have one item where the variation selected shows in the cart but all other items do not show the variation selected in the cart. All items show variations in the temporary cart that disappears shortly after the item is added, but when the actual cart is clicked at checkout, only that one item shows the variation and all other items do not show the variation.
I cannot find the difference in the items and when I duplicate the item that currently shows the variation, the newly created item does not show the variation in the cart either. What am I missing and how can this issue be resolved? Customers need to see their items with the variations in the cart so they know what they are getting what they paid for.

That's interesting that a few items don't show their variations! The only time an item shouldn't show a variation is if the item doesn't have any variations, just a straight price.
The first thing I'd recommend is to make sure your app and device OS are fully updated. A lot of times Square does little tweaks on the back end and if your app isn't up to date it can cause some pretty random issues.
Next thing I'd check is to try ringing up an item on another device like your phone or a random tablet. If the problem continues on the new device then I think something's not configured correctly with your account and your best bet would be to call into support. They have deeper access to your account than we do in a public forum and should be able to fix the glitch.

After much effort, I finally stumbled on this as a workaround - when Modifiers (instead of Variations) are used, the product differences show in the cart that the customer sees during checkout. This solves the lack of visibility issue but may not work for everyone as modifiers apparently do not work with scanners for inventory management.

I will have to check this later, but do you have Images for each variation? Also does Each variation have a different SKU or GTIN? Square use to not have images for Variations. Then the Item Image would show on my Ipad (Square Stand) I know a fer items I have Images with the Variation but not of the Item. I just set this up on my Ipad to test. The item Lilac has a group of Pillars for an Image when variations did not have an Image. This item has 2 Variations one has a picture of a 16oz Jar and the other variation is an unwrapped Pillar candle. One is my Old SKU and the other is a New shorter SKU.
My Item is 4x6 Lilac which has multiple images of different color 4x6 Pillars.
The Variation Lilac has an Image of a 4x6 Lilac Pillar.
The Variation 4X6 Pillar has an image of 16oz Jar
When I add it to my cart, the image shows the Variation Image and not the Group of Pillars. Now if the Variation has no image, then the Image of the Item of pillars does show up.
So this is Possible with Variations and scanning a SKU or GTIN if images are set to the Variation as shown below.
