Transferring a website

Hi! I’m very new to Square so I’m sorry if this is repetitive. I am in the processes of buying a business, but due to some legal reasons they told me to create everything new myself, Which means my own square account.  We are trying to transfer her website from square over to my new square account. Please tell me that’s possible?

Hi @Gbabe62789 Since you weren't specific, I have to give you two answers to your question.

First, if all you are trying to do is transfer ownership of your domain/URL from the previous owner to you, that is entirely possible.  The current owner of the domain has to initiate the transfer process to you.  Here are the basic steps:

To transfer a domain from one Square account to another, follow these steps:

  1. Prepare for Transfer:

    • Ensure the domain is eligible for transfer.
    • Disable WHOIS privacy protection and registrar lock.
  2. Initiate Transfer:

    • From the Square Dashboard, go to Online Domains.
    • Select the domain and follow the prompts to transfer it.
  3. Complete Transfer:

    • Follow any additional instructions from your current domain host.
    • Confirm the transfer via the emails you receive.

Now, if you also want to transfer ownership of the actual web pages/content, that is a different matter.  I know of no way -- short of transferring ownership of an entire Square account -- to do this.  Here is a Square help article about transferring ownership of a Square account -- Transfer ownership of your Square account.

Just in case whoever came up with "legal reasons" why you can't just transfer their Square account to you (that sounds pretty odd to me, but.....) I'm going to tag the Square Moderators here.  Maybe one of them knows how to transfer web pages/content from one account to another.

That’s a super helpful breakdown, 👍. From my experience, you’re absolutely right—domains can be transferred fairly smoothly, but the actual site content usually has to be rebuilt on the new Square account. In situations like this, many business owners also take it as an opportunity to refresh their brand look.

If you do end up rebuilding, tools like Remaker AI can really speed things up—whether it’s quickly generating new product images, face swaps for team photos, or even background removals for clean website visuals. Instead of trying to salvage every piece manually, you can modernize your site while setting it up under your own account.

Curious—have others here gone the “rebuild + refresh” route when moving a site instead of trying to fully transfer it?
