Tip Screen update- Text and buttons are smaller

Some design changes were made and now the buttons & text are smaller on the tip screen.  The iPad has so much screen real estate, so why is it being wasted for the sake of design? The old tip screen was far more readable. Please make it bigger.

Hi folks - sorry for the delay in responding.

@MayaP has already covered that the updated screen will be rolling out shortly. As you all may know app updates need to go through Apple's approval process so it can take some time before you see them.

As to what happened: we made some updates to the screen to provide a clearer separation between the tip options (percentages) and the no tip / custom buttons. In our testing we found that more customers ended up clicking on the tip options. However, we completely missed the mark on the sizing - which we have since corrected after all your feedback.

Again I want to apologize for the difficulty this has caused your employees and customers. Your feedback has helped us rectify this, so please do keep it coming. We are also continuing to make improvements to this screen over the next few weeks, particularly on the font and button sizing so please make sure the app is kept up to date.

not being fixed- only reported as a feature request. This has been a major problem for me and my employees. It’s crazy small, there was no need to change it in the first place. This is unacceptable to ruin a perfectly good setup that has such a detrimental impact on small businesses. It looks ridiculous and square should WANT to fix this because it reflects on them- why would you want your software to look bad?

Is there an official update from someone who works at square?

Some other people have covered it, but I too reached out to customer support to inquire about restoring the bigger font size/buttons in the tip screen.

They're considering this a feature request, which is a bit wild to me. Making a graphical user interface harder to read/navigate is a mistake and asking for a rollback shouldn’t be considered a feature request. Readable GUI’s are a requirement for successful software, not a feature.

Customer service reps are doling out the fake empathy canned responses and I don’t blame them for that, but I do think those on the software development side need to make themselves available in the community forum to explain these decisions.

Personally, I’d rather know if these are the new design choices and I have to live with it over wondering if there's an actual attempt underway to make that screen better for customers and workers.

Just tell us “this is how it is now” so we can plan to stick around or move on. The CSR line of “we pass your comments on to the development team” isn’t quite believable because if customer opinion mattered, it would be obvious at the first cash transaction that everything is way too small.

I assume a manager wanted a design refresh, gave the task to some independent contractors, and pushed it through with zero input. At least that’s what it looks like to me.

So yeah, development team. Where are you? What’s going on with this? Is this how it will be forever? If not, what’s your best eta on when things will be restored or better?

Please, no canned responses.

Thank you for continuing to post about this. I don't think at this point we will even receive a canned response, as it seems clear they have abandoned this thread entirely. I am not sure why the initial response was "we are fixing it now!" was even posted if that was just a flat out lie.  I too would also like to know if this is a permanent change we will need to either live with or move on, but the fact they can't clearly address this is incredibly frustrating. I agree, an update that completely ruins features due to a simple design flaw of font/size should not be a "feature request" as if it's some new fresh idea to try!  This is a poor design update that is causing real harm to businesses. PLEASE update your customers!

Hey everyone, I appreciate your patience. Our team has implemented a fix. iOS app version 6.78 is currently rolling out and will address the tip screen. Please keep an eye out for this update. If you continue to have issues after the update, let me know. Thanks for hanging in there through all of this!
