Some design changes were made and now the buttons & text are smaller on the tip screen. The iPad has so much screen real estate, so why is it being wasted for the sake of design? The old tip screen was far more readable. Please make it bigger.
Hi folks - sorry for the delay in responding.
@MayaP has already covered that the updated screen will be rolling out shortly. As you all may know app updates need to go through Apple's approval process so it can take some time before you see them.
As to what happened: we made some updates to the screen to provide a clearer separation between the tip options (percentages) and the no tip / custom buttons. In our testing we found that more customers ended up clicking on the tip options. However, we completely missed the mark on the sizing - which we have since corrected after all your feedback.
Again I want to apologize for the difficulty this has caused your employees and customers. Your feedback has helped us rectify this, so please do keep it coming. We are also continuing to make improvements to this screen over the next few weeks, particularly on the font and button sizing so please make sure the app is kept up to date.
Hi @candlepins - Thanks so much for sharing this feedback. I completely understand how important it is for the tip screen to be clear and easy to read. Could you share a screenshot and a few more details about what you’re seeing on your iPad and how it was previously? That would help me get a better sense of what’s going on. Please make sure to tag me so I don’t miss your reply.
old tip screen. Big buttons, takes up a good amount of screen space. White text over color. Large-ish font.
New tip screen. Tiny buttons. Tiny font. Look at all that screen space that could’ve been a larger button.
Even the customer facing screen which is smaller than an iPad on your proprietary pos system; has larger buttons and text.
Thanks for sharing this, @candlepins. Just to confirm, is this only happening on your iOS devices like the iPad? If you’re also using an iPhone, are you seeing the same thing there too?
I only use the iPad to ring up orders.
This is what it looks like using the iPhone, and at least the layout and font size make sense.
It’s like this update was pushed through without thought to the user experience on an iPad.
Small text in bold is just far less readable and worse when it comes with small buttons. I can’t stress how important it is to try out design changes out in the real world before pushing it out to everyone.
Also, the amount due/change text is also comically small. Why? I don’t understand this at all.
I completely understand. I don’t love the new layout either, it isn’t ideal at all. I really appreciate you providing all those details. I passed this along to our team, and the good news is they are working to fix these issues. Some updates, like font size and button heights, could start rolling out as soon as next week. Thanks again for your feedback, it really helps us improve. I am here if you need anything else.
Hi, is there an update to this fix? I’m trying to find out if it has been rolled out or not. I don’t want to have to randomly delete and reinstall app just to see if it’s been fixed. Our tips have gone downhill since this update and I’m fielding a ton of complaints from employees and customers having trouble reading it so small. Please, it would be very helpful to post an update where we’re at with this.
Quick question for you, the number at the the top of your screen after you receive a tip, is it just showing a total now? Like on the thank you screen, Ours used to show the total plus tip so the kids could see it right then. Now it’s just showing a tiny number at the top of the total amount including tip. Just figured I’d ask a fellow user. Kind of disappointing. We’re not getting any responses to asking for updates on this fix. People are complaining that they can’t read the screen without glasses on, and the kids are losing tips.
Yes - they also changed that screen so it only shows the total payment (in tiny font) instead of total + tip.
Thanks for getting back to me,😊 just wanted to confirm with another user that this also changed for everyone. ☹️
My team is working on this change and I wanted to chime in to say that we've heard the feedback loud and clear. We're going to update the buttons and text to make them larger and clearer.
Very relieved to hear that there will be a new update to fix the tiny tip buttons. Our tips have gone down for staff in one of our departments because of the small buttons.
Don’t be too relieved. I contacted support to get an update and they said whoever said they were fixing it in this thread - is not fixing it. There is no fix in progress just a feature request.
The update also caused some modifiers to display “Regular” on KDS to some items but not all.
Is there an update?
Any update to this? It’s still the same small font and buttons. Is there a time frame this will be fixed? Getting lots of complaints ….
@abhiroop or @MayaP - you indicated that someone is working on this, but there's a message below that indicates that's not true. Can you clarify? Is there a way for us to "like/promote" a new feature request to encourage the Square team to prioritize this? It's really a ridiculous situation right now.
The updated buttons with larger font will start rolling out this week. We're also continuing to make small changes to this screen so please continue sharing your feedback
We want to second the need for this change to be reversed. The buttons are so small for the receipt screen and the tip screen--they can't be easily read by staff or customers.
