Hello,
Hoping someone here can help me, i have put in multiple requests to the sales team and support team. No response or very limited help. I had to send a message to squares Instagram account to get any response.
-We are upgrading from a food truck to a brick and mortar location with a hybrid concept of shelf items with barcodes (spices, drinks, chips etc.), Items sold by the pound (Salads, seafood, deli meats) as well as a kitchen that guests order off a menu (sandwiches, soups, entrees)
-Square support has confirmed that if the barcode printing scale prints EAN-13 or UPC-A Barcodes - the POS software can calculate the correct price and weight. For all items sold by weight (shrimp, salads etc)
-My next issue is trying to confirm if the barcode printing scale, barcode scanner, and all the shelf items can integrate with Square for restaurants because we need to be able to send orders to the kitchen via a kitchen printer.
I have read plenty of threads and support issues online from similar concepts such as BBQ places that sell meats by the pound but i have not found a clear answer if all of these can work with Square for restaurants.. Every order is not exactly the same such as an item that weighs 1.12 pounds versus 1.25 pounds.
From an operations standpoint it seems a little crazy and an unorganized nightmare to have one terminal running "Square for retail" for shelf items and everything sold by the pound and then have a separate terminal running "square for restaurants" just to be able to send orders to a kitchen printer..
Any feedback or help is much appreciated, I know Toast and other competitive POS systems have all these capabilities but we have been with square for years and are hoping to continue with them.
@harrison1331 There is some good news here for you. I have ran all of the different versions of the point of sale and the retail now works with the KDS so that is one avenue to use. The square for restaurants does also allow you to scan barcodes to enter items. The last part about the scale is where I would strongly look at using just the regular point of sale app.
I have looked and confirmed that the price embedded barcodes can be used with the point of sale app. I have a suspicion that if you set up the item correctly that the restaurant app might also read the barcode correctly (no guarantee). The key thing here is retail, restaurant, & point of sale all share the exact same item catalog. You just might not use every field and the apps behave very differently. I have sold on all three with no problems, but modifiers are not compatible with weight based items.
