Square Contactless payment not working after iPhone update

Hi All. I have not been able to use my square app POS after the latest iPhone update. I have uninstalled & reinstalled, gone through the permissions etc, spoken to customer server and still cannot get it to work. has anyone else had this issue? It is an iPhone 13pro max

What version of the Square app are you running, and what version of iOS?  I'm fully up to date on both, and it is working on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

Having similar problem.  It keeps cycling between entering payment amount, then tap to pay, then add tip, then tap to pay then back to enter amount.  Transaction never completes.  HELP!

Same issue. It will tap to pay and then it doesn’t secure the transaction. It vibrates and everything then goes back to the tap to pay screen. I have to manually enter numbers which I am paying a bigger fee for. I’m switching to gloss genius.

Yes, after my vending events this weekend, I am switching. This is not good for business and with the high fees, I can go elsewhere where iPhone upgrades don't mess things up. I know technology is not perfect but this makes no sense, and even if it disconnected, after all things are cleared up, and nothing is wrong, how the heck can this be? So frustrating!

New user to Square Tap on Mobile this weekend after moving from a Bank merchant facility, but can not get it to work - keeps looping from tapping card back to review item, tap again review.... iOS 26.4 on iPhone 15 pro, everything else working NFC, stable internet (testing at home), no phone case to interfer - so far it is useless to me. AI support service suggested everything and all ok at my end after logging out, re-start phone, delete app, re-install, log in (no device code, no hardware...) but still loops and never finalises a sale

Further to my message - Square app still looping & not finalising however I added my Bank merchant app to another iPhone (12) updated to iOS26.4 as they needed and it all works! My conclusion is the problem might be iPhone 15/15 pro and latest update to iOS26.4 causing a malfunction in the NFC - maybe thinking cards are not valid for Tap on Mobile (incorrectly thinking they are overseas cards or cards not suitable for this type of payment service) Apple prob needs to to an investigation and update the update! I’m back with my Banks app for now on older phone!!

Also having the same issue. Have tried all the usual things that square suggested but once I tap for payment it takes me back to the tap to pay review page and the transaction never goes through …. Hope someone comes up with a solution quickly as this has been the fourth day in a row now …

Same for me, works with my android, but not IPhone. Can send payment links but the tap to pay page completely useless, just goes straight back to the invoice page without taking the payment

@VanKalkerFarms thank you for bringing this to my attention!

 

From looking into this, it appears that there is currently a known-issue with using Tap to Pay specifically when the device is running iOS 26.4. This is currently being investigate by Apple and we don't have a fix as of right now. 

 

Some of the workaround Apple has recommended to us:

  • Signout of iCloud and sign back in (Settings -> Apple ID -> Sign Out, then sign back in)
  • Turn off device passcode and re-enable it (Setting -> Face ID & Passcode -> Turn Passcode Off, then re-enable)
  • The last resort is to restore to factory settings. if you are attempting this step, we recommend to back up your device first.

Alternatively, if you have a physical Square Card Reader, you can also pair it with your device and attempt to take payments that way. 

 

If you are NOT on iOS 26.4 but are still experiencing an issue with taking Tap to Pay, please let me know:

  • A screenshot of the error message you are getting
  • The iOS version you are using
  • The Square app version you are using

Mine isn’t working also since the update on my iPhone 14. It works on another phone, iPhone 12, that I have not updated yet. Signing out and restarting and all that stuff doesn’t work. I have been using the square hardware for now, very annoying!

I completely understand this has been a frustrating experience.

 

It looks like there is a new iOS update — 26.4.1 — and another Community member @MtlPkch has confirmed that updating to this has resolved the issue they were experiencing with Tap to Pay.

 

When folks have a moment, please try updating to the latest iOS software version.
