Small Square Device Failed in Less Than 2 Years โ€“ No Support Provided

I am extremely disappointed with Squareโ€™s product quality and customer service.

Yesterday, my small Square machine suddenly stopped working and would not turn on at all. I tried multiple methods to fix it, and when I contacted customer support today, they repeatedly told me that the warranty had expired, so nothing could be done. They attempted basic troubleshooting, but it did not solve the problem. And no technical support help as well ๐Ÿ™‚

This response is completely unacceptable. I purchased this device less than two years ago, and your own staff have said these machines should last 5โ€“6 years. Clearly, this product has failed well before its expected lifespan. I also found posts as far back as 2016 describing the exact same issue, devices failing just after warranty expiry. This shows a long-standing reliability problem that Square has failed to address.

I now have serious concerns about my other Square device, which cost me $1,000. If a small device cannot even last two years, how can I trust that a much more expensive machine wonโ€™t fail just as quickly?

Square needs to take responsibility for defective products instead of hiding behind a one-year warranty excuse. As customers, we are investing in your devices based on the promise of durability and reliability. Right now, Square is not living up to that promise.

I expect a real solution, whether repair, replacement, or compensation , not just a word- you are not under warrent. Otherwise, I will lose all trust in Square.

Can I ask what device it was, and what the user case for it is? I generally have had good luck with Square hardware, in a reasonably busy bar, though have had to replace a couple of readers.

Hi is a square terminal. I used that everyday, and it just suddenly dead. I have one square register and one square terminal. Lucky, the register still can use for now.

Hi @MelissaLi - Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with our Square devices. I completely understand your frustration and disappointment, and your concerns are valid. I definitely donโ€™t want you having to replace devices frequently. Iโ€™ve seen many sellers successfully use their devices for several years, and I want the same for you.

 

To make sure Iโ€™m exploring every option possible, could you confirm which device youโ€™re using? It would also be helpful to know more about whatโ€™s happening with the device and what itโ€™s connected to. I will keep an eye out for your reply!

Hi I used the square terminal, it just suddenly dead, even when I charged with different cable, it didnโ€™t response. And I called the support, they rebooted for me but still no working, and said they couldnโ€™t do exchange since the expired date just passed on this year Feb, and also no technical support in Australia as well๐Ÿ˜ฃ
