Shipping by weight and prep time error

Hi

Ive just opened up the shipping option as normally we are collection only. It is set for specific items that are handmade they each have there own individual prep time which overrides the default one.

 

When I have added these for shipping and entered the weights only in the items I want for shipping then I go to add a shipping profile I have no where to do it by weight ?

Am I missing something ? is there a box I have not ticked somewhere ?  

All I have is PER ITEM or PER ORDER (see screenshot)

Because these items are handmade they have different prep times which is clearly visible on the item description page when in pick up mode. But as soon as the customer picks shipping option they disappear and are not taken into account. Please see screen shots with highlights in red.

 

Am I missing something here too ? have I forgotten to fill something in ?

Hey @OTCF, thank you for your post! I've gone ahead and escalated your question to our specialist team, as I could no create a custom shipping profile by weight on my account either. I just want to double-check with them to see if there is a way to achieve this.

 

Once I get more information from them, I'll update this thread here. ☺️

Thats great i will keep a look out for it. At the moment shipping options are useless to me as we sell thing with many different weights and dimensions etc. All round the help boards it says ship be weight and i went for hours trying to find it and its nowhere to be seen. 

Ive spent ages putting weights in on products without the option to choose by weight...lol

 

Also can i have an answer on the prep time and why it disappears when a custom selects shipping ? so it's not taken into account on my handmade items ?

Hey @OTCF, thank you for your patience while my team looked into this. 

 

My team has confirmed that custom shipping profiles for specific items can only allow a flat rate, so this is a limitation within our system rather than a bug. At the moment, weight-based shipping is only available for all items rather than a subset of items in your inventory. 

 

Additionally, prep times will only appear for Pickup and Delivery orders as they are managed under the Pickup and Delivery settings, and are not tied to the shipping option. This means that prep times will not be displayed to your customers if they select shipping as a fulfillment option. 

 

I can see why both of these features would not only be beneficial for your business, but for other Square merchants too. I'll pass your feedback on to our product team.

It's such a shame that there are so many restriction across the entire platform. I appreciate that there would not be every single option available to suit every business model but all I seem to be doing is coming up with issues every time. I do think that it should be pointed out within the help pages before you sign up that what I mentioned above you can't achieve.

We have a lot of restricted shipping items so I can not open up all items for shipping to utilise the "shipping by weight" function 😥.

So now i'm stuck paying for a website that I can't utilise half the functions on.

Thank you for getting back to me @OTCF, and I totally understand that it is frustrating when a product is limited in what it can do. We're always looking for ways our products can be updated, but unfortunately, the process of improvement can often take time. We appreciate you sticking with us nonetheless.

Hi @k_atie 

Would it work in reverse order ? So if I selected all items for shipping option so I can utilise the shipping by weight, can I then deselect the ones I don't want to ship by unticking the individual items tick box when you go into a product separately ? 

 

Would that help me or am I clutching at straws 🤔

Hey @OTCF, yes that should work! Then the items that you don't want to ship will not be available if your customer selects shipping as an option. Then the shipping will be calculated by weight once the customer selects the relevant items they'd like to purchase.

Right I have set that up this morning and I have tested it an I think it works 👏 

 

Now the only issue I have is I have a minimum order amount of £5.00 set for pick up collection orders is there a way to set one for shipping as I would like to keep the same amount so a minimum order of £5.00 before pick or shipping.

 

How do I set a minimum order value of £5.00 before shipping is allowed ?

That's great @OTCF, glad to hear it! At the moment, it's not possible to set a minimum order value before shipping is allowed. This is considered a feature request at this time, but I'll pass your feedback on to our team. 

 

As a workaround, for the time being, you can set a minimum weight for an order before shipping is allowed. In order to do this, just change the shipping weight rate to a minimum weight. This will prevent customers from being able to select shipping until their order is of that weight.
