Payment Link Trigger Automated Email?

Is there a way for me to trigger an automated email after someone makes a purchase on a specific payment link?

For example, they buy something here: https://square.link/u/sSMDWvlI

And after they pay, an email gets sent to them.

I use MailerLite as my email distribution and I do have Zapier, but Zapier doesn't seem to support this.

Any solutions?

Yes! While Square doesnโ€™t natively support automated emails triggered by specific payment links, there are a couple of ways you can set this up using Zapier, MailerLite, or Squareโ€™s built-in email tools.

Option 1: Using Square + MailerLite via Zapier (Workaround)

  • Even though Zapier doesnโ€™t directly support tracking purchases from specific payment links, you can create a Zap that triggers when any Square transaction occurs.
  • Then, in MailerLite, you can set up a rule to filter recipients who purchased a specific item (if each payment link is tied to a different item).
  • This isnโ€™t a perfect solution, but it can work if your payment link is for a unique product/service.

Option 2: Square Marketingโ€™s Automated Emails

  • If youโ€™re open to using Squareโ€™s built-in email tools, you can create an Automated Campaign in Square Marketing that sends an email to customers after they make a purchase.
  • While this doesnโ€™t trigger based on a specific payment link, it can be filtered by item, category, or customer group.
  • You can access this under Square Dashboard โ†’ Marketing โ†’ Create Campaign โ†’ Automated Campaigns.

Option 3: Manually Export & Upload to MailerLite

  • If the automation route doesnโ€™t work, another method is to periodically export customer purchases from Square (filtered by that specific payment linkโ€™s associated item) and import them into MailerLite to send follow-up emails.
  • While not instant, it works if you donโ€™t need real-time automation.

Final Thoughts

If youโ€™re set on using Zapier, you might have to explore custom webhooks via Squareโ€™s API to capture payments from a specific link. If Square expands Zapierโ€™s capabilities to recognize individual payment links, that would be the cleanest solutionโ€”might be worth submitting a feature request here.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you find a better workaround.

My question would be kind of similar to this one, but not.  When I send customers a link to pay, I would like to receive an email notice letting me know that they made the payment.  Since it doesn't send me a "paid on Invoice # 1254" notice, I have to remember to log in and check once a week to see who has paid and who has not and it is quite a mess trying to scroll through all of my online payments made on the company website AND payment links I send manually. I often miss seeing a payment made and send a customer a past due notice when they already paid it.  If I go directly to that link, it will ask me to pay it as though I were the customer. The only way I can find it is by going into transactions and scrolling through a set date/time frame of all payments made and that always includes my website orders.

I'm pretty sure I receive an email when an invoice is paid.

You can always go to the invoices tab and see which have been paid

Yes.  For an invoice but not for a simple payment link.  I will get one for the invoice if it is paid but nothing comes for the link to pay that I email. I have to manually log in and check every invoice and link by month to see if it was paid.
