Customer is trying to pay an invoice. They are getting this error after attempting to pay:
"Sorry. Your card was not accepted. Please confirm your card information."
Does anyone know what this particular error means? They said their card information was correct.

There are three possibilities that come to mind here...
First, the easiest mistake someone can make entering the card information is to not put the correct zip code in. Especially if it's a business card, the billing zip code may not be the same as the zip code of where the card is located.
Second, many banks have daily limits that a cardholder can charge to prevent fraud issues. For example, my cards have a $2500 daily limit. This sale may be over that limit. Your customer can call the card issuer and tell them that the $8500 is a legit transaction and then try again. The transaction should be successful then.
Last one--and this is a stab in the dark if the other two reasons don't work--I have one company I work with whose cards will not work in my industry. Each merchant has an industry code attached to their account. My local school district has limited their cards to not be accepted in foodservice establishments. No matter what we do on either side of the transaction, that card won't work for us. If this is the case, then your customer will have to figure out alternative payments.

Thanks so much for your help and for explaining the possibilities.
Here is what worked...
I told the customer to try paying using "Gpay" rather than the normal square credit card fields. And it works. They may have possibly entered the wrong ZIP or something like you mentioned on the first go around.
Just wanted to share the solution.
My costumer are puting there card info in to the invioce I sent It wint allow it it tells them to check there card info they are using the right card one of them I took payment another way it was not there card
Sorry your customer is having some trouble @Hartwicks. Take a look at @ryanwanner's answer above for some reasons as to why it might not be working.
If your customer is still having issues processing their card, they might want to talk to their card issuing bank/company to make sure there aren't any limitations set to the card.

I am having this issue paying. I'm pay from Australia to Japan for the amount of ¥190000 (2000aud), from a mastercard credit card that has no daily limit, no exchange rate fee for paying for overseas currencies. My bank says they have received no requests of any type for a deduction from the card.
I contacted squareup and was told that they do not allow overseas transactions to be made, ie I can pay for it with an Australian card, but I must be within the boarders of Japan to do so. Using a VPN doesn't get by this.

While Square accepts most internationally-issued credit cards, there are a small handful of cards that are unable to be processed. In these cases, we suggest alternative payment options, such as direct bank transfer as there is no workaround for declined cards.
Are you able to confirm how you're attempting to make the payment? Is the card information manually entered into a point of sale app, or are you trying to complete an online payment?
