Offline payments notworking

1st yes, they are set up both during an internet outage AND during a service disruption.

Where I teach there is no wifi and NO CELL service.  calling square has been ZERO help.

 

I tried for 45 minutes to troubleshoot on my own.  I have both the appointment app and square. 

phone is galaxy S10.

Edit...it works fine everywhere else that has wifi or cell.

BUT where I teach now the wifi was removed and big metal building with no cell service outside (hill)

When i am the the building.....

When I turned off wifi and data :

appointments app said Cash only

Square App said No Connectivity please connect to the internet.  under hardware Bluetooth connected verifying with square

 

when I just had data on same as above

 

airplane mode NO cash payments

 

i turned on normal wifi on and data  and it caid cash only...than it connected to my reader and went to No connectivity.

 

when I called the person didn't even know square had an offline mode. around the 30 min mark, he got me to the offline dashboard...which I already knew about.

Hello @goodwillie68 ,

 

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble, and to be clear, I'm not an expert in offline payments, but how I think offline payments works is that there has to have been an internet connection originally.   I don't think you can just start Square up without an internet connection and have the offline payments work from the get go.

 

Again, I'm not an expert, and maybe another seller could help verify this?    What do you think @TheRealChipA , @perkits , @homeprogreen @JTPets ?

I don't use offline very often, perhaps its tied to an inability to phone home with its GPS coordinates?

Hi there @goodwillie68.. So, you gave us a lot of information which is good.  But you omitted a couple of key pieces of information.

 

  1. What is your device and OS?
  2. What kind of card reader are you using?

After I know those two things, I should be able to help you troubleshoot this.  I have my strong suspicions about what is going on, but there's no need throwing things out until I have a complete picture.  Thanks.

 

(Oh, and @SVLFever offline payments should work anytime that the POS app doesn't find a data connection of some sort.

Thank you @TheRealChipA !!!   I had thought that when a terminal was in offline mode, it would have a "yellow bar" across the top of the device and a "red bar" when their was just no internet at all.   I mistakenly assumed that the connection had to be established first in order to get the "yellow bar".

 

Anyway, thank you for the clarification!

You have to enable offline payments while you’re connected to the internet then when you don’t have internet access it should automatically switch over to offline payment mode when you try to take a payment. So basically you would enable it at your house while connected to the internet then it should be fine. 1 question though, how old is your square account? From the fact that you mentioned that it says cash only when you’re connected to the internet it sounds like your card processing hasn’t been approved yet. You can’t just setup a new Square account and immediately start taking card payments. There’s an approval process that each account goes through first but it will allow you to immediately start using the Square App taking cash payments

I've been using the card reader for 4 years.   It works.   Just not offline.    And yes per my post I've checked all the boxes prior to going to the area with no service.

 

It only says cash only when I'm at the location with no wifi and no cellphone service.   It works fine when I have wifi.   But recently the wifi was removed.    That's why I am in this spot
