My Square account has been hacked and funds disappeared.

Hello,

I set up my Square account to be able to take credit card payments from my website, FlintLong.com.   It worked well for two or three years, and then I quit coming to transfer funds because most of my payments were coming through paypal, and even though I knew some purchases were made using square,  I didn't come drain the funds, just let them stockpile.
A few hundred dollars maybe, not more.  Today I came to transfer the funds and the account has a zero balance.  This is impossible.  I received a credit card purchase from a customer just a week ago.  What should I do?  Thank you.

Hey @FL5

Sorry to hear about your issues.  Your best bet is going to get in touch with square support.  They will be able to look into your account and see what is going on and where the funds went, and potentially escalate the case.  Being a public forum, we aren't able to get into account specifics.

Adding to what @Minion said, most states have what are called escheatment laws. These laws states require financial institutions to turn over unclaimed funds after x years of inactivity. Square may be required to report and remit dormant balances to your state.  In your case, while funds might have been added to over a period of years, that does not represent activity.  Movement of funds does.  So, support is your only way to learn what has happened.  In this case, don't chat with the bot.  Get a human being on the phone.

If you can't get this resolved that way, let us know.  We can flag your post for further review.
