Limit discounts to one per tnsaction

Hello, I need to be able to limit my employees ability to add more than one discount to anyone order. Today my employee added a 20% discount and then a 30% to the same transaction and gave someone 50% Off. I'd like them to only be allowed one discount per transaction. 

After reaching out to square, I was advised there is no such ability. Has anybody had this issue and formed a workaround?

This has been asked for but not yet developed. 

Until this feature is added into square it is always advisable to train your team to only apply one discount per transaction. 

 

We also have a label on our square stand that states "only one discount per transaction can be applied"

 

Square is aware of this being a large need for the community, and may add this in the future.

I was told it was an accidental discount. I just dont want them to have the ability to put on multiple.

When I add a discount if a specific item is rung up, is it possible to have the discount applied to the entire transaction? For example, if I have an "item" called "Brewer Discount" that I have created costing $0 and applying a 30% discount to that item and it is added to the transaction, can it take 30% off the entire sale? That way the staff has a clear indication a discount has been applied and it's easier for them to track?

When you have automatic rules set up for discounts, it is going to apply those to specific items or categories or customer groups. 

Those automatic discounts are going to show in your cart with a strike through the original price and then the discounted price below it.

It is pretty easy to spot these because of the strike through and updated price.

 

If you want discounts that apply to the entire cart, they would need to be manual discounts, and you can add a button for them in your POS discounts section for your team to press.  

These manual discounts can also be applied at the item level by clicking on an item and then toggling the discounts toggle and choosing the discount to apply.
