Items

So am creating an item for threads and using variations to select which size spool you want, and what I am trying to figure out is which thing should I use for customers to select thread colour when I have 100's of colours?  Currently I selected as I said Variations to create the size spool, and in Modifiers I started to enter in the 5000m spool colours and price.  Am I in the right area for this type of options for customers to select?  Also - is there a way I can upload a spreadsheet with the colour codes into Modifiers or if I shouldn't use that, which should I be using to show colours and spool price?  Also - can the customer select more than one colour or size at a time to put into their cart?

Hey @Katlyplus,

Thanks for your message!

I'd probably avoid using modifiers here (as they can't be tracked as inventory) and stick to using Items and Variations.

How many different spool lengths are you looking to sell? I'd probably have different lengths as items (eg 5000m Spool, 2500m Spool) as separate items, then use variations to list your different colours.

With that said, if inventory isn't an issue you could also look at having the one item then using variations for length of spool then modifiers for colours. Though it would seem simpler to break things up into different items if you have a set number spool lengths on offer. It may take a bit of experimentation for you to discover which way works best for your business!

Modifiers values are not able to be updated via spreadsheet, however you can export your inventory and make some changes to it via the import/export tool - though generally it's easier to manage via Dashboard.
