Vision impaired

What provisions or innovations are Square going to provide for those customers who are vsion-impaired? Especially, a PIN pad that does not require them to find numbers on a glass screen; something that is impossible. Please create a tactile PIN pad or the option for one to be purchased OFT and plugged into the POS

Hey @theyarnbowl,

Thanks for getting in touch!

Square Terminal is accessible for visually impaired consumers, we’ve built a headphone jack into the device to enable audio prompts for the checkout and payment flow. We always strive to improve our products and services to make sure that they are accessible to everyone and are actively working on a solution to make PIN entry on glass more accessible for the vision impaired. We know this is an issue that is not exclusive to Australia, and look forward to sharing more on this as it develops.

Hi

I am wanting to know if there has been any update on providing an alphanumeric tactile PIN pad for the vision-impaired?

Don’t tell me about the headphone jack because that doesn’t enable someone with a vision-disability to navigate the glass screen.

This should be a priority. Equal access for the disabled is a legal right and in not providing this feature you are actively discriminating against vision impaired customers.

Hey @theyarnbowl,

I don't have any further updates to share here at the moment, other than to say we're continuing work on developing scalable solutions to support vision impaired sellers and customers. As soon as I hear of more that I'm able to share on our Seller Community here I will!

It's worth nothing that PIN entry now has a $200 minimum, which should help reduce the need for any physical contact with touch screens.

You could also look at other payment solutions offered by Square that will allow your customer to make a payment to your business via their own devices, eg:

- Invoices - this will allow you to email an invoice to your customers, who can then make a payment from within their own operating environment, eg a computer or mobile device set up with vocal guidance.

- Checkout Link QR Codes - this would again allow the customer to make a payment from their own mobile device specifically set up with vocal guidance such as Apple's accessibility options. Customers can use their phones to scan QR codes that you can print or display online for them to scan.
