Is there a way to temporarily modify the price of an item inside a transaction?

Hello!

It is relatively important for me to have a function to change the price of an item on the fly in the middle of organizing a transaction. I already utilize options and variations for color options, and it would be unwieldy for me to double the amount of them with variable price options, as well as extremely time consuming.

Is it possible to add variable lump sum discounts to individual items and/or temporarily change the price of an item inside a transaction? The only ways I can think of that I've found so far is to add a variable $ discount to the entire transaction and then disable the discount on all items except for the one I need it on, or go to the item in my dashboard, change the price, and then change it back after the transaction. Both of these methods seem very inefficient and I hope that is not the only option. I suppose I could also just input the item on the keypad and say what it is in the notes, but I've probably spent about 100 hours setting up a vast web of categories, modifiers, options, and items, and I would really love for it to be everything I need.

Does anyone have any clever ideas to circumnavigate this issue, or else have a way to solve it entirely? Thanks so much!

@TropicalImports  Welcome to the community. Are you wanting to do this?  A customer comes up and something is priced 29.99, but you want to change the price instantly to 25.99? If so you can do this in the POS.

*EDIT* I should say I'm using Square Retail POS, I just checked the regular POS and I don't think you can do a price adjustment on it.

Tap on the item you want to change the price.

The next screen that pops up tap on Price Adjustment.

A keypad will popup and there you can enter the new price.

The tap save at the bottom.

and your price has been changed. It doesn't change it permanently just for that sale.

Thank you so much for your detailed answer! There's so much to learn with Square, and it can be difficult finding the resources I need sometimes through searching. I was indeed on "POS mode." I upgraded to Plus and was able to switch the system, which now looks completely different! This will work wonderfully.
