I’m seeking guidance on resolving an ownership and payout issue with our Square account.

The Problem

We cannot identify or contact the original account owner.

Only the owner can initiate an ownership transfer.

Funds are currently sitting in the account and need to be transferred to our verified business bank account.

We have full legal documentation for the business (LLC formation docs, EIN confirmation, business license, proof of authority).

Contacted Square Support via phone.

Drafted and sent follow-up documentation.

Confirmed we can provide: Articles of Organization, EIN Letter, Business License,  Government-issued ID

What is the exact escalation path when the account owner is unreachable?

What documentation specifically satisfies Square’s ownership transfer requirements in this situation?

Is there a direct method to release pending funds to a verified business bank account while ownership is under review? Is there a risk of funds being frozen if this remains unresolved?

If anyone has successfully navigated an ownership transfer when the original owner was unavailable, I would appreciate insight on:

Timeline expectations

Required documentation beyond standard LLC paperwork

Whether legal affidavits were required

We need to resolve this promptly to access operating capital.

Thank you for any guidance.
