How can I set up international shipping costs easiler ?

Hi,

I am setting up shipping fees. For same country I offer free delivery ( which I have set it up already without problems ),

but how about international shipping fees? Do I have to check my post office website to set international shipping fee for every country ? That’s a big headache!

I think there should be a easiler and smarter way to do it.

I am new to square…. Thanks

Hi @Ritcho!

Yeah shipping is not great, but the good thing is, once you figure out the formula for your business, it becomes a bit easier (plus once you set it up with the winning formula, you shouldn't have to touch it for a while).

When I say formula, I mean look at your product options and think of regular types of orders (in weight / size) vs worst case scenario (ie could someone order 100kg of goods from you, and if so, should you be doing it based on weight instead?). This is how Square works for shipping — either by order / item / weight (so picking one now will help you figure out the rates you need to be looking at).

We've tried a few different options for our business (which is just mens hair and skin care, so not hugely weighty or bulky) — started by weight with Australia Post (but I too felt overwhelmed trying to figure out their mess of rates) — ended up just doing per order at a flat rate with Sendle (way simpler!).

Sendle's pricing is super streamlined: Domestic Rates / International Rates

For our business, to save the messy cost per kg etc we've just opted to a flat rate of $8 shipping for orders under $100 (which covers most orders, sometimes we make $1 or $2 off, but then other times on heavier orders, it costs us a little bit more - so our aim was just to balance it out as much as possible). Orders over $100 shipping is free, and the most we've been charged is $16 by Sendle (this was around 1kg of goods but the package was a bit bigger than normal for us). Way cheaper than Australia Post (and its a courier instead of snail mail).

For international we just have a flat rate of $20 for all orders which will cover a bunch of countries in Sendle's network in the 500g size, but we will have to pay a few dollars on some orders that go over this (which we are fine with — we just didn't want to foot the whole bill).

As I said, at first it definitely feels overwhelming, but once you pick how you'll charge (ie item / weight / order), then figure out if you charge per country and then you can start playing around with the pricing table in Square's fulfilment area.

Hope that helps!

Hi ,

thanks very much for your detailed information. It really helps! 😊

My business is simple, items are light-weighted and simple. It's a good idea to offer flat rate and make it simple. I don't mind to pay a few dollars in some cases.

Will have a look at Sendle website.

thanks very much. 👍👍
