How can I set a discount to automatically apply to an imported customer base?

Hi All,

I'm currently trying to set up a membership system for club that applies discounts to people who are members of our sister club, is there any way I can set up square so it automatically applies a discount to people attempting to purchase a membership and use the same email they use for that other membership. (I have a spreadshet of all the emails I need which I can add to a customer directrory if needed).

Great question, @AFSAVIC!

You can create a Customer Group discount to automatically apply discounts to Point of Sale transactions for customers in a specific customer group. Here's how to set this up:

Import Your Customers

- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Customer Directory > Directory

- Click Import / Export > Import Customers, and upload your customers via .csv file following the format instructions provided on the Dashboard.

Create Customer Group

- Click + Create Group > Manual Group, and select your newly added customers.

Create Discount

- Go to Items & Services > Items > Discounts, and click Create a Discount.
- Give your discount a Name (e.g., Sister Club Membership).
- Choose the discount Amount Type (i.e., Dollar Amount $ or Percentage-based %)
- Toggle on Discount Rules, choose Customer Group, and select your newly added customer group.

- Ensure Apply automatic discountSquare Point of Sale and other integrations is selected.

Some Considerations

- Customer Group discounts apply to the entire sale for that customer. This means if a customer purchases a membership and additional items in the same transaction, the discount will apply to all items
- To avoid applying the discount to other items, memberships should be processed in separate transactions

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

Same requirement: When a customer drops out of the club on the other system, can I re-import the entire member list and will square remove that customer from that group?

I use Vinoshipper application for my wine club that I manage sales, shipping and membership for my customers.

This system deals with each state excise requirements.

We have customers sign up and drop membership daily.

I need to leverage the discount feature in Square to extend discounts to in-store purchases for club members.

I need square to allow import of wine club customers to add them to a "Wine Club" group in square, and remove them from this group when they leave the club.

If this could be automated and dynamic that is a perfect situation.

Our wine club system has a web hook to automate this?

Hello @Leaderbrand ๐Ÿ‘‹ My name is Violet and I'm one of the Community Moderators.

I went ahead and merged your newest post to this
existing thread, where you asked a similar question. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future.

Were you able to look into the information on our Customer Directory and Discount setup that @Katie_SQ provided above? When you bulk import your customers, this should override any previous versions of your customer directory, to reflect any changes you've made, such as removing customers.

I hope this answers your question, but please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with ๐Ÿ™‚

@AFSAVIC this is Ashwin from Pintuna, a trusted Square partner. Pintuna Membership App is already being used by several Square sellers for similar requirements. We can ensure that members of your sister club automatically get discount at your club as well. We can keep the members in sync for the two clubs.

Happy to demo the solution. You can pick a time for the demo or reach us at [email protected]
