Group Discounts + Category

Hi Guys, I have got some discounts operational for both Groups, & also for Category. But I have not managed to get these to work together so members of a group get a discount at a specific category.

A brief rundown is we are a sports club with a Bar, Merchandise & a Kitchen.

If a member is part of the financial member group I want them to get a discount at the bar. But not Merchandise or Kitchen etc.

I have got Bar only discounts working with things like buy 5 get 6th free but this is open to everyone

I want Beer priced at $6 for non members & $5 for members.

I have this working using a members get 16.66% discount.

But I cannot limit this to specific items (Beer or Bar items) they get discount on every sale.  Does anyone have a workaround or known options.

Hey @PuffinBillies,

Without being able to see the setup of your items and discounts it's a little difficult for me to get the full picture here, however provided you're not referring to automated discounts you can manually apply discounts to individual items rather than an entire transaction.

On the Point of Sale app, once you've added items to the sale, tap "Review Sale" then tap on the item you wish to apply a discount to. You can scroll down and toggle on the discount you want to apply to the individual item, and it won't apply the discount to the entire sale. I hope this helps! Let me know if I've misunderstood.

I know it's a long time since you posed this question, but i had a similar requirement. While most of the docs seem to imply you can have one or the other, it appears it is actually possible.

If you look at the article here:

It's mentioned at the bottom.

The only issue is, you can't do it from the dashboard alone - truly wierd. i needed to load the Square POS app onto an IPAD (even though I use sqaure for restaurants).

In any case I got it work by:

Create the discount as you'd like it to work (without a reference to the group).

Open up the Square POS add on the IPAD then follow the steps in the article:

1. From the main menu of your app, tap Customers > View groups.

2. Select a group you wish to apply a discount to.

3. From the menu at the top of the page, tap Manage group discounts. 

4. Either select an existing discount to apply to the group or press Create discount. 

5. If you are creating a new discount, provide the discount details > tap Save. In the next window, click the discount you created > tap Save. 

6. If you are adding an existing discount to a group, select which discounts you wish to apply > tap Save. 

Once that's done the discount you created will only apply to the group (it will work from all devices).

You'll notice once this is done it is described correctly (with reference to the group) in the dashboard, but you are now no longer able to edit it. 

Such a shame it can't all be done from the dashboard, as it's obviously all do-able in the backend, just not implemented in the dashboard.

It's a great feature, I've used it to apply discounts only to those who stay on my mailing list.
