Gift Card / Discounts and Tipping

Hi All  - 

 

I was on another thread that did not really answer if there is a work around or a feature request for this so I figured I would re-post here.  

 

When a customer uses a gift card, the tip screen (defaulted to certain percentages or custom) is calculating the percentages based on the total after gift card redemption

 

In theory, YES, as an owner, we have already been paid for the gift card, but the server has not been tipped for the service they provided. 

 

The same thing happens with our Martini Monday or Wine Wednesday.  The tip calculation is based on the discounted price.  Just because the customer paid $6 for a martini, instead of $10, the server/bartender is not offering less of a service because the product is discounted.  

 

There is an option to calculate tip before or after taxes - so it seems the coding structure is there.  Is there not a way for the engineers to add the options to: 

 

Calculate tip BEFORE Gift Card Redemption? 

Calculate tip BEFORE discount? 

 

I have attached a recent transaction that shows what happens.

 

In this instance, the tab was $71.69.  

Customer used a $50 Gift Card.  

Remaining balance was $21.69 which the customer chose 22% tip, leaving a $4.77.

Server got a $4.77 tip for a $71.69 tab. 

 

In using the handhelds, with predetermined amounts for the customer to pick, they often just choose without looking (hell, I do it all the time!) so we can't blame the customer LOL!

Hey @Apt9F (and @Sammie_C )

 

No good news here.  This functionality simply does not exist in Square, yet.  I know it has been requested more than a few times, but so far nothing has happened that I am aware of.  Anyway, you can submit a feature request on this board.  I'll definitely upvote/support it, if you submit one.

Hi @Apt9F, I appreciate you reaching out about this!

 

Do you by chance have a link to the other thread you had posted? I would be curious to see what others were saying on this one.

 

In the meantime, I am going to tag in a few of our amazing Square Champions to see if they might have any wisdom on this. @TheRealChipA@makedonas, and @SSB_YVR do you all have any insight on @Apt9F's inquiry? 

 

If our Square Champions don't have an exact answer, I can definitely take another look into this.

Hi, 

 

It was here:  Gift Card and Tipping 

 

It was marked as solved, although there is no solution there.  

 

If there is a solution, and I did not see/or understand it, please let me know.  But to the best of my knowledge and checking the dashboard via my laptop, I do not see the options that would solve this.

The reason I marked a solution on this is it looks like this functionality is not available at this time, unfortunately. So if another Seller sees this posts, they can see that the answer to your question is it is a Feature Request, as @TheRealChipA mentions. A Feature Request is an idea or improvement to our products or services that can be submitted to our Feature Request board here, which may be implemented down the line.

 

So while it is not a solution or workaround for your issue at this time, it is the solution at the moment.

 

Please let us know if you end up having any other questions and we can take another look!
