We upgraded to Square Retail for the promise of COGS reporting and increased inventory capabilities. We manually entered all our COGS info over a week ago. Then we sold products this week. When I pull up the COGS report for this week, only 4 items (out of hundreds) have COGS info that shows up. What is going on? After investigating, I cannot find any reason in the item setup why those few items are working and everything else isn't. Very frustrating, no rhyme or reason. Called Square Retail support, pending a call back but it's been hours.
@sbf_admin- I appreciate your time while I escalated your case to our Retail team for more insight. Here are some common issues we see with COGS reports:
1. Unit costs were entered, but not the actual historical receipt of the item.
You can go into Items > Inventory Management > History > Bulk actions to review/update.
2. Unit cost is added, but stock tracking isn't turned on.
For COGS to report, you have to turn on tracking and receive in stock before selling the item.

This workflow of: must be in stock prior to sale, doesn't work for drop-shipping.
We have many many items that are drop-ship only, or not carried in stock at the store.
How do we solve for this?
Much like sbf_admin stated, many items are not being populated in the COGS report, thereby rendering these reports useless.

Unfortunately, for a COGS report to run, stock has to be on hand. Square doesn't currently offer drop shipping, but it's something we're tracking as drop shipping has gotten increasingly popular. I will pass this feedback on to our Square for Retail team as well - thanks for bringing the gap in reporting here to our attention!

Do we have a timeline for that enhancement on the roadmap?
Since the majority of my stock is dropshipped, I have to manually update the data in an exported spreadsheet. Unfortunately, this takes an immense amount of time.
