Contactless tap direct to mobile device?

Good morning square users! 

I heard a rumour that you are now able to use tap and pay direct from your mobile device with no reader needed. This is via NFC. 

Does anyone know anything about this? 

It does not seem to be coming up as an option when I go to process a payment on my Google Pixel 7

Would love this option for markets etc!

Thank you for writing in with this question! 

This is actually something we're working on! Right now, Tap to Pay on iPhone is available in the US only, but we're hoping to bring it to Android devices, and also to the Australian market. 

We'll be sharing an update on the Community once we have news on this front 🙂

Good news: Tap to Pay is now available on Android devices in Australia! It's as easy as following these steps:

1. Make sure your POS app is updated to the latest version
2. Add an item or key in an amount.
3. Ask your customer for a contactless card or digital wallet. 
4. Have them hold it to the back of your phone and you’re set.

I can't get this to work on my Samsung A71. I've spoken to the Square support staff on the phone and all my phone and Square settings are correct. It shows the Tap to Pay option at checkout, but just doesn't seem to read any cards against my phone.

Any advice?

I gave this a test run yesterday and it worked well (once i worked out where my NFC sensor is).

For us, it's going to be a perfect solution for one off events. Next weekend is our annual harvest festival and we need much more POS availability than usual. This gives us the option to scale up for these types of events without having to buy a whole bunch of extra hardware which will gather dust for most of the year. Good Job Square!
