Can't disable Cash Management on Android devices

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Cash Management on all devices and cant swtch off"

 

Having an issue with cash management on my Android devices.

Since the last update I'm unable to turn off Cash Management on individual devices.

When opening a ticket it prompts me to enter starting cash on every device

If I turn off it switches back on. If I opt to remove cash management from a device it says it will remove from all devices (which I dont want)

Unable to edit cash management on the dashboard either

Anyone else having this issue?

P.S. An update for the Square Point of Sale app for version 6.68 on Android will be available in the Google Play Store on 4/29. Be sure to update to the latest version, once this becomes available!

Hey @Jay1 !

 

I have NOT seen this issue, but I'm wondering if you could check two things;

  1. Do you have any cash drawers "open" currently?   I'm wondering if an open cash drawer somewhere is preventing you from making the change.
  2. Have you tried running "close of day"?

Again, I have not seen it, but am wondering if having an open shift might be preventing you from making the change.

 

I would also go to your dashboard and go to REPORTS>CASH DRAWERS and do a search for a date range of any "open" shifts.  If you have any "open" or "ended", click on them and make them "closed".

Problem is still persisting.

REPORTS-CASHDRAWERS all cashdraws are closed.

No open cashdraws on any device either

where do I run a "close of day"?

 

If I turn off cash management on a device it turns back on with a red box notification

"unable to connect to server. Changes are only visible on this device"

 

If I try to remove cash management from the device it will remove from all my devices.

 

The workaround that I'm currently having to use is to have open cash drawers on every device.

This is far from perfect but more practical than being prompted at the opening of every ticket to Start Drawer and enter a starting balance.

Thanks for the update @Jay1 .  Unfortunately in this case, I can't provide further help, as I'm running all Apple devices, with the exception of my KDS's.   

 

Could you tell me specifically which Square app you are seeing the issue on?   I can probably tag a few others here to maybe try to duplicate.

That’s odd, indeed.  First, a couple of obvious thoughts.  Are you sure that your WiFi connection for that terminal is on and actually connected?  I’d recommend disconnecting from WiFi completely and then reconnecting and trying again.

 

Second, it’s possible that you might need to reboot the terminal device?  Here are the steps:

 

  1. Tap ≡ More Settings.
  2. Select Hardware, then General.
  3. Tap About Square Terminal.
  4. Choose Factory Reset and confirm.
  5. Tap Reset one last time to start the countdown.

Alternatively, hold the power button for 10 seconds until you see a countdown timer, then release when prompted.

 

If none of that works let me know.  We might need to enlist the aid of the Square Moderators here.

I wish I had an answer/fix for you however, I too, am running strictly Apple devices and Registers and haven’t come across such an issue. Best of luck

It's interesting because I see "Use on this mode", not "Use on this device" when I navigate to Cash Management settings... I wonder if it has to do with the different modes? I am not too familiar with it to be honest... I am using Square POS, and I'm not at all sure if it makes a difference either. Switching Cash Management on and off "...this mode" works as expected for me, even after testing out differential modes. Sorry... Wish I could be more helpful.

@LocavoreStore “This mode” refers to the beta POS app that you and I (annd others) are currently testing.  I’m not sure that it is available yet to the general public, however.  It might have been delayed with the staffing shakeup at Square of the past few weeks.

I’m not sure.  If you’ve download the TestFlight app, however, then it works for all businesses that sign into that app.  This particular test did not require formal enrollment in a beta test, but rather just a TestFlight invitation to download it.

Pretty sure I'm not using TestFlight app. Just using stock Square POS on android w/ separate login. Maybe someone can confirm that "Modes" is no longer beta? Seems as if it's generally available. I'm wondering if @Jay1 is able to confirm whether or not they're using the most up to date version of Square? I'm not at all familiar with Modes, or Cash Management... It just seemed curious to me because of the difference in language.
