Worked out what is going on. The square barcode scanner does not read details from a electronic device. It would be good if these details were displayed in details

Hi @bbhcafe,

Thanks for writing into our Community with this question!

In most cases, you would have to manually enter the gift card information when your customer is ready to pay using their eGift card. However, if your customer has an Apple device, they can add the eGift card to their digital wallet and you can scan it via your device camera, or with a barcode scanner. To get started, enable the Apple Wallet integration for eGift cards by following these steps:

  1. Go to Payments > Gift Cards > Settings on your online Square Dashboard.
  2. Toggle on the Enable Apple Wallet integration for eGift cards feature, then click Save.

This is what the gift card would look like in your customer's Apple Wallet:

I hope this helps, please let me know how you go!

Thanks for your response

I have connected scanner to both a square terminal and Register and both time it has connected with no issues.

If i scan a bar code on an item it beeps, but it will not do anything with a e gift card.

Thta's why I thought that maybe gift cards are not supported.

I see, @bbhcafe! Are these digital cards in your customer's wallet, or the barcodes via the email?

Arie,

Both, Only me at the moment and I have it in my apple wallet.

Cannot scan in the wallet or from the email.

Hi there @bbhcafe, I'm just jumping in here while @Arie is out of the office!

This is a new issue for me, so the only additional recommendation I can offer is to make sure your device's brightness is set to its maximum level (100%). While we can certainly attempt the troubleshooting steps for your barcode scanner, it seems that the problem may be unique to the configuration of your eGift cards, as you've mentioned that scanning other barcodes doesn't produce the same problem.

In light of this, I would recommend reaching out to our Support Team directly. They can provide real-time assistance over the phone. You can call support on 1800 760 137 (Mon - Fri, 9 am - 5 pm Melbourne time).

You need a barcode scanner that handles 2D barcodes and is not a single laser line reader.  There are some compatible 2D barcode options on Square's website.  Look through this list and find a 2D scanner: Barcode Scanner Compatibility | Square (squareup.com) Example is Zebra DS6707
