Membership barcode

We are tennis club and I was wondering if you could link a barcode to a member.  Could we give a member a membership card that was barcoded so whenever they paid ball fees or made a purchase at the bar they could first scan their membership card.

Hey @lptcbarmanager,

Thanks for reaching out!

At the moment Square's product offering doesn't include a membership management system or facility to generate a barcode for a member to use on our system. I'd be looking at dedicated membership management platforms for this kind of thing.

What you can do via Square is manage a Customer Directory and use this to tie customers to transactions made via the Point of Sale app - it's not exactly what you're looking for but may be helpful in some capacity!

Thanks for the info.  I know that there's a number of tennis clubs that use Square and in the future it would be good function to be able to barcode members.  Not with 666 of course.  As many tennis club have a club restricted bar, meaning only members can drink there it helps especially the larger clubs where you may not know all members.

Once again thanks for the info.

It would be great if you could manage memberships within square. We are a small non-for-profit member organization within Australia for people with a Dutch background or heritage. We have member only events and special deals for members, but not all volunteers know who a member is or not and if they paid their membership. It would be great if we could manage this within square and have a digital membership card that the member can show us at the events.

You can 100% do this we are doing it like this right now with Sqaure Point of Sale.  We've got membership cards with barcodes printed for each member, and we've added all members as 'customers' in Square.  We have a Sqaure Register, and we've connected a barcode scanner to the register.  Check the list of supported barcode scanners here: Barcode Scanner Compatibility | Square (squareup.com)  When we scan the membership card it comes up with their name on the POS terminal.  Now you know who they are.  All you need to do to make this work is simply add the barcode number to the Reference ID field in their customer record.  Our setup:

* Sqaure Register

* Supported barcode scanner (we use Zebra LS2208)

* Have the physical cards with a barcode made up for each member.  We use the ITF barcode format.

* Add the barcode number to the Reference ID field inside the customer record
