Camera usage detected

Hi, I'm using Android Google pixel fold 9 to do tap and pay. Every time I enter amount and then press tap to pay, my phone comes up with a notification "camera usage detected, close all apps". Even when no other apps are open it does the same so I cannot continue to take payment. Anyone know how to stop this?

Called square and they are not offering any discounts on other payment options that may cost more. Highly disappointed, been a customer for 8 years and being offer no discount on processing because they have a bug and cannot adjust to a new update within and android system that they advertise their software is compatible with.

Wow that is wild! Really hope they fix this bug soon...it is quite insane.

They are worried about increasing their fees and not helping those that have been loyal for several years, I guess. No sense of urgency.

I have a pixel pro fold 9 as well with the same issues. Google support has no ideas of what to do when contacted by phone. This is a serious issue and is increasing my fees due to having to use manual entry.

Yes I'm having the same issue and lost sales as some people don't want it to be entered that way and don't have other forms of payment... Very frustrating.

For the clients who don't like me using  manual card entry, I have been emailing them an invoice from Square that they can pay online. I hope that helps.

Just got a message from a Square Support Engineer saying the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is not currently listed as a "supported device" for Tap to Pay, which means we're on our own until it's officially checked for compatibility by their team. Just want to give an update, so no one else has to spend an hour on the phone with tech support. Full text below:

"After reviewing our device compatibility list, I can confirm that the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is not currently listed as a supported device for Tap to Pay. You can view our full compatibility guide here .

While you may have been able to use the device in the past, please note that only certain models are officially supported. Devices not included in the compatibility list have not undergone full testing and may not work reliably with our system.

I hope this clarifies the situation. Please let me know if you have any other questions or if I can assist with anything else."

That is crazy. Especially because I've only ever had a pixel 9 fold while using square since April. So I've been able to use it correctly for 6 months and now suddenly they can't fix the bug that they created and so it's not compatible...🤦🏼😡

Seems like software wise if it works for the pixel 9 pro it should for the pixel 9 pro fold?

This should be the final answer to this thread. I googled if the pixel fold is even compatible with the tap to pay on square and this is what I received:

No, the Google Pixel Fold is not currently listed as a compatible device for Square's Tap to Pay, and some users have reported issues such as a "camera usage detected" error. While the Pixel Fold has NFC and meets the basic software requirements (Android 9 or later), Square has stated that devices not on their official compatibility list have not been fully tested and may not work reliably.

Why it may not be working

Not on the official compatibility list: Square does not officially support the Pixel Fold, so it may not function correctly, according to a Square Support Engineer.

"Camera usage detected" error: Many users with the Pixel Fold have reported a bug where the app incorrectly detects camera usage, which prevents them from accepting payments.

I bought the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold two weeks ago. Didn't realize Square is not compatible. Can't do Tap to Pay or use my Card Reader. Customers have to manually enter their details in person or I send an invoice which leads to higher fees. Would like this resolved asap. I looked like a dummy with a client.

None. I think they are more focusing on the increased fees rather than the tech issues.

I have the same issue with my Google pixel 9 pro fold and contacted the "engineers" last month.

I gave them all my troubleshooting steps I tried and explained I have been using it for months already with no issues. They sent me a diagram of where the NFC reader is on my phone and told me it's not compatible.

I switched to Chase POS which has less fees and no issues. 👋
