Today one of our products when scanned is stating that the UPC matches another product with a completely different UPC and barcode i.e. scan strawberry jam and it states you have two options - strawberry jam or peach jam - select one. Were have been using our barcodes for almost a year.
We use GTIN UPC and barcodes from GS1 and this is our first error. The last 4 numbers are not even close and the products are two separate types. Anyone experiencing this today?
I would check your Item strawberry jam and see if it has variations of regular and Peach Jam. That is first.
2nd I would check the Peach Jam barcode and see it it also has 2 variations.
3rd if none of these seem to be the problem, take your scanner to a computer and search for that item barcode that shows 2 variations and see if you see both options on a computer in your Square Dashboard.
I use the same GTIN for my jars but have different SKUs for each scent as a variation. This way if the SKU does not read the employee can scan the Barcode (GTIN) and choose te scent for that jar.
I am not experiencing this issue today and if I did these would have been the steps I took to look into it.
If you can do a screen shot of you Square catalog searching for the offending barcode (strawberry jam) in your instance.
Check both the GTIN and the SKU numbers to see if they are similar.
I had this happen with two of my hair pomades, but they both had the same GTIN and I did not notice this right away untill the one range up as select your version or sku. I forget now ince I was not at the register a the time.

Thank you so much. That was the issue - an employee scanned one item while trying to sell another but was in Item creation mode 🙂
