Assign category at checkout

Hello,

For our reporting, every item needs to have a category (donations, room rentals, giftshop sales, artist sales etc). I've read on here that you can't categorize an item after the transaction has occurred, which is unfortunate.

Is it possible to assign a category when you manually enter an amount into the checkout? We accept donations of random amounts - so I can't create an item for each donation amount. If I charge someone at the checkout, how do I mark this into a specific category?

I have a personal square account and am looking at getting another one for a small giftshop at the artgallery I work for. If you can't properly categorize every transaction, it won't work.

Thanks!

Shannon

Welcome to the Community, @squigley

There isn't a way to add a category whenever you enter a Custom Amount at Checkout. But you can still have the ability to add the categories whenever the item is created.

I have a possible workaround for you to help - I would create an item called Donation. If you leave the price blank, it will make it a variable price. Whenever you add it to the checkout, then it allows you to enter whatever price you want.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
