Add an item split purchase?

Been using square for a while now and the only issue I run in to is during a purchase 2 people want to split the purchase say a sandwich but one person wants to add an an additional item to their half, say a muffin. Is there any way to add an item to one half a split purchase or does it have to be in a separate transaction?

I've run into this before. At this time As far as I know it's not possible to split an individual item. I just have one of them pay for the item and let them work out collecting from their friend for that item.
