tipping on tabs

I have a question about tipping when there is an open ticket/tab. I am currently using the option where tips are divided up equally among employees clocked in at the time of that tip, my question is when there is an open ticket/tab and our employees have to enter in the tip manually (for times the customer writes a tip amount) when is that tip applied?

I am being asked by my team members because often those aren't entered in until the end of the night when closing out the drawer.

Thank you,

Hi @TerrorTacos..  I’m deleting my reply and doing another one.  I missed something in your original post.

Hi @TerrorTacos.  First, please ignore my original reply.  I misread your question.

Now, since you say that “I am currently using the option where tips are divided up equally among employees clocked in at the time of that tip” then the tip will be distributed to the people clocked in when the transaction is closed.  I’m assuming that you are closing the transaction when you present the check to the customer, and that you are only going back and entering the tip at a later time.  If this is the case you will be fine since Square always works based upon the time the transaction is closed.

If, however, you are presenting checks to customers and not closing them until you have time to enter the tips, then you will have a problem.

I hope that makes sense.  Let me know if you have any further questions.  And I’m sorry about that erroneous first reply!
