Saved carts are not showing consistently across devices

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: SAVED CARTS STILL MALFUNCTIONING AFTER ALL THESE YEARS...,

Hi there. We have suffered with so many saved cart issues over the last 5 years its gotten ridiculous.... Its gotten better, then its gotten worse, but its never ever been correct. We have 2 square stands with iPads.. All updates are regularly applied. The issue now is if you save a cart on stand 1, the cart never shows up on stand 2, and vice versa. Previously the cart would show on both stands, but if the cart was updated or changed in any way the changes would never show on the other stand. We are using ipads, square stands, and square for retail. The ONLY way to get the saved cart from the other stand to show up is to exit the app, then hard terminate the app by swiping up and restarting the app, then the cart will display. Can this PLEASE be addressed and fixed... I just cant believe how many years this has gone on for... 😞

Saved cart syncing should work seamlessly between devices on the same Square account, so this behavior is not expected. Based on what you’ve described, it sounds like there could be a communication issue between your devices and Square's servers. While I can’t make changes directly, I’d like to recommend a couple of next steps for troubleshooting:

 

  1. Network Connection: Ensure both devices are connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, syncing issues can occur if either device experiences a temporary connectivity problem.
  2. App Settings: Verify that the Square for Retail app is up-to-date on both iPads. Even minor app updates can address unexpected bugs like this.
  3. Device Syncing Reset: If the issues persist, try signing out of the Square app on both iPads, then signing back in on each device to reset the syncing process.

This isn’t a problem on my end. This is a square issue. None of the suggested actions make any difference. Like I’ve said this has been an issue for years. I’m tired of calling in and reporting bugs. Every time square makes a cosmetic change which is constantly, they break something. If you look further in the community posts you will see i am not the only person reporting this exact issue about the carts.  This is becoming more and more the norm with square.

JJ, I've updated everything -- software and apps. Both are on the same wi-fi. I think it has to be a setting somewhere I'm missing. And, I can't find a sync button anywhere. What about "mirroring" ipads? Is that an option (not that I would know how to do it.)??

There is no setting to sync apps.  Each app connects to the Square server when you sign in with your user id or device code.  I believe it is something with the update for some reason.  I do not do alot of saved carts or saved Tickets, but before when I did more of them if I saved a cart on Stand #1, I would see it on Stand #2 almost immediately.  Meaning I turned around walked about 6-8 ft and Tapped Saved carts, and the cart I saved on Stand 31 was already on Stand #2.     So yes they were on the same network and at the time had the same Version of Square for Retail.  

My response; 6 of 9 actually shows the two stands with the Same Square version number but the Ipad I carried around had the previous version and would show the Saved Carts that were created on ANY ipad on the Same Wifi at my store.  Once I updated Square for Retail on Stand #2 it no longer showed the Saved Carts from Stand #1.  Even thoughthey were on the same Square Version.  The Ipad I use around my store for inventory or to assist customers in store was able to show saved carts from any device.   So it has something to do with the Update(s) IMO.

I also recently noticed that my saved carts are not showing up across my devices. I have two ipads and two terminals and they are not syncing.

I have 3 Ipads using Square for Retail, 2 are in stands running version 6.68w.  One of them (CC and Cash) shows 9 Saved carts the other (CC Only) shows 0 saved carts.  they are within 8ft of each other with a wifi repeater midway between them.  So the share the same Repeater and internet connection.  The 3rd Ipad (Mobile) is a mobile Ipad and is running 6.67.2W, and shows 9 saved carts.  All the carts are saved in the One Stand connection as it is our main POS.  From January through June that is the only one we use and save carts in during this time period.  In my account I have the one we enter Saved Carts in named as something like CC and Cash, The one that shows no Saved Carts is labeled as CC Only, and then there is the Mobile one that is more used for checking inventory around the store and if we go to any local events.  Now I did notice a few weeks ago after an update all my Saved Carts disappeared from All Ipads.

Thank you for confirming this. But as usual it seems square just doesn’t want to hear about this. I have reported  various cart issues for years. It always gets ignored.

@JJ_  Another user has now reported the same issue below, @Candlestore and there is another thread on here from a bar user who is also having the same problem.  Why is this issue being disregarded?

UGH! I want to scream. I have the same issue. Saved Carts do not reciprocate between ipads that are less than 10 feet apart. Transactions do instantly. This saved cart portion was working well until about 6 weeks ago. All software and apps are up to date. Have you found a working solution yet?

I am having the same problem. We have a 2nd iPad set up with no cash drawer that's just there to save tabs (carts) so we don't have to wait for the main POS to be free every time we want to add something to a customer's cart. It worked fine for a couple of years and just a few months ago stopped communicating between the 2 devices. Saved carts do not update on the other iPad unless you close the Square App and re-start it. Now the extra station is basically useless. Please, please fix this bug in the next update! 🙏
